Samsung is quite cool when it comes to new funky stuff, but they aren't cheap.

Certain phones are provider specific. First choose which provider you want (with the best deal) then browse their phone selection. Personally I think Sprint has the best multimedia phones ( I have the Sanyo 8100 camera phone) but it is all a matter of taste.

gonneman is correct in his statement.. samsung comes out the coolest stuff... and their are good, sturdy... not cheap like kyocera. Sony Ericsson is good too, as is Motorola.

if ya want an entry level sony ericsson phone, get the t310 or t610. but if ya want the real deal, get a P800...

super good fone to get
i highly recommend the new nokia 5100. i have this fone with tmobile and it works really well. lots of toys to play with (flashlight, temperature reading, sound meter, calorie counter) but it works real well with speakerfone, has radio, cheap too. got mines for free.

I'd definetly recommend the SE T610, the best phone on the market imo. It's got a huge ammount of features for not being a smart phone. The P800 is good too if you want even more features but being a smart phone it's way too big for my taste. A phone shouldn't weigh more than 100g and you'll be better off with a real hand computer and a separate phone. Imo of course.
