Hey,
I was wondering if any body knows the catch behind a cell phone contract?
I have just put this poll up fpor people to see who is really fed up with their contract!

i do actually.
even the 'free' phones you receive with a contract are pretty expensive. even a crappy lg c1300 (my phone) can retail over $150, so they need to tie you in for 2 year's worth of contract profit to make up for the $150 hit they took.
makes sense, right.

The only reason rate plans get get as low as they are is because you are under contract. If there wasn't contracts the rate plans would most likely be higher.

i suggest if people don't like contracts, they should look to prepaid. then they will appreciate their contract.

Exactly. Nobody likes to be locked into a contract, but they give you a trial period when you sign up for a reason....to make sure you are satisfied(i.e. you have good enough reception/signal where you live). Just make sure that before you sign that agreement you know what you want.

If we choose to go prepaid, then cost per minute is very expensive? How can we avoid that?

two choices if you want a cell phone:
1. contract
2. prepaid w/ higher prices

If prepaid was cheaper then nobody would be under a contract.

I think somebody mentioned the 'free' phone already, but obviously they have to recover the price of the phone over the life of the contract, therefore locking you in for a reasonable amount of time.

sprint gave me a really nice vga camera phone for free. 2-yr contract.
the "catch" is the early termination fee, with sprint it's $150 to cancel my contract if i changed my mind and wanted to get out.
my dad just ditched verizon to get on my sprint family share plan and i think he told me their early termination fee was $175 (is that right or wrong, anyone?)
the only other "catch" that i can think of, is that anytime you call to make a change to your plan, ie add or removes services, they reset your contract date. so if i called next week to add more minutes to my plan, my contract date starts over on the day i change the plan. (with sprint you can change your plan around all you want in the first 90 days without resetting your contract date, just fyi)
as was mentioned before, thats why there is a trial period. sprint gave me 14 days to send my phones back if i didnt like the service, and on day 15 they became mine for 2 years unless i want to pay to get out of the contract.Last edited by Brad729; 12-31-2005 at 10:15 AM.

Are you actually asking a question, or did you copy Grizwald's post? It doesn't make any sense what you are adding to this topic.
