    I was wondering if someone is trying to sell you a phone that is not unlocked yet, but branded by a provider. Is that phone hot?

    Not necessarily. Maybe they are a private party and just don't know the unlock code, or are upgrading and don't need the old phone. And don't want to go to the effort and expense to unlock an old phone. Plus every dealer out there sells branded and locked phone for the company they work for. If it is a CDMA phone I would call and get the ESN, then make sure it can be activated by your provider, before you buy the phone.

    That's not a stupid question, actually it is a question that I commonly hear.

    First you ahould ask yourself the follwoing questions;

    1. Do you know the person who is trying to sell the phone to you?
    Do you trust this person? If so, you shouldn't have a problem!

    2. Is the phone reasonably priced?
    Basically, if it seems a little "fishy" that the price is so low, it might be stolen.

    3. You should ask if it comes with the Box / Manual / Charger, etc.
    If the phone does, then it probably isn't stolen.

    4. The rest is up to you.
    If you honestly trust the person, and you don' think it is stolen, then go ahead and buy the phone.

    Please Note : If the phone is from EBAY, ask the seller how long the person has had the phone. If the phone is brand new, and you don't know why they would get rid of it, don't trust them.

    Hope I could be of help!
