Im with Verizon now, and from what I can tell it is at least 90 a month for a decent data plan.

As far as phone service goes... If I can get around 600 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends, I am set. I just need something so I can access full sites and an unlimited amount.

The T-mobile + Sidekick seems good... especially when compared to Verizon. 60 a month with tmobile gets the phone service I want and unlimited data.

    What are some decent alternatives?

    --EDIT--
I don't need a PDA phone at all really... so these Treo's for 600 bucks, they don't really look too enticing to me!

I have the T-Mobile Internet Add-on plan which I'm using with the MDA and it works great. I know you said you don't need a PDA, but if you are a new customer a Treo will not be $600. Now, if you sign up for 2 years with T-Mobile you can get the MDA for $299.99. If you don't think you need all of what the phone has, the SDA is $199.99 and is a Smartphone(can be used with the Internet Add-on plan).

First of all, thanks a ton for replying! Secondly, damn that phone looks so good!

I'm going to check out reviews for it and the SDA and determine which I would prefer and then go from there. Thanks so much for showing me that phone! I might just make the jump and learn to use the PDA functions, who knows, maybe I'll start getting to work on time?

    Anyone else like the MDA?

Oh also, looking at the specs, it says WAP 2.0, I may be extremely dumb, but I want like... REAL webpages... is this possible with this phone?

Yes, I can go to almost any website I want to. For such a small screen, the webpages look great.

    thanks for the reply!

I also realized today though that the MDA is 50 dollars more than the sk2 with a two year contract, and on top of that, the data plan for the sk2 is 10 dollars cheaper...

I'm liking the MDA a lot from what I've seen but more money is more money... is it really worth it?

If you ever have trouble viewing certain sites with the WAP browser (mine freaks out on sites with a lot of images) then you could install Opera Mini and use it as an alternative. I like the Opera browser, and I do use it on certain sites, but I still use the WAP browser for most of the things I do.

http://mini.opera.com <--- point your WAP browser there to get the latest version.

Ok I could be wrong, I was under the assumption that WAP browsing was text based? Like I said I could be very wrong...

WAP is a simplified web page format designed for mobile devices. WAP sites can contain images, but they generally have little or no images to make the pages load better. Regular sites can be loaded on a WAP browser as long as your phone has enough memory to handle it. My cheap phone has NO memory, so lots of images cause it to power-cycle and that's why I use Opera sometimes.

Yup, Opera mini is a really good browser. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with PIE...so far.

Feature wise the MDA kicks the Sk2's butt. About the plan, you can use the BB plan with the MDA if you don't mind not having HotSpots.

What do you mean BB plan without the hotspots? Why would you need hotspots if you were able to get full internet anywhere you have a decent signal?

Well, T-Mobile Hotspots are at T1 speeds but only at Hotspot locations(certain Starbucks, Borders, Airports, etc.). Now if you aren't at those locations very often then you really don't need them. The BB(Blackberry) plan is only $19.99/mo. compared to the Total Internet Add-on $29.99/mo. plan.

Now, since you won't be using a Blackberry, what you will need to do is log-on to MyT-Mobile.com, change your phone to a BB and add on the BB plan. Once you have done that, go back and change your phone to the MDA and the plan will still be there.

I'll just throw out another alternative here. Have you though about Boost Mobile prepaid. They are marketed toward kids so there website is kind of dumb, but if you can get through that they offer really cheap, and Unlimited data without a contract. They charge $.20/day, or $6/month. You can install Opera Mini on even their cheapest phone, i415 for $50, and veiw full html web pages. iDEN data gets you about 19.2. Which is fine for browsing Opera Mini on the phone. If you are in a WiDEN area with a WiDEN enabled phone you can get up to 4x that. You also have the ability to tether to a PC, and use the GPS in the phone with GPS tracking/nav software on google maps.
It's not an MDA, but the unlimited data for $6/month isn't too bad.

How does one set this up? I have the data cable cord and i415. I am confused how I can use the phone to tether to my laptop (windows xp) althoug many forum posts elsewhere say this is possible.

    Thanks.

Netxel Dashboard software for dialup. You can also make a windows connection with the dialer. Google or a search will get you directions on that.
