Re: Net 10 Pre-Paid Wireless Review

I really like the service net10 provides, its cheap, afforadable and pretty darn good. Plus they give 2 months free and 300 minutes to start. The phones start at 20 bucks and the flat rate 10 cents lets you pay for only the minutes you need.

The service is pretty good. However, I'm not loving the phone options. Variety of phones is limited, but you have to remember you're paying for a practical & economical phone. For $0.10 per minute, you're getting a deal that really is incomparable to any other...especially in our current economy where you have to save everywhere you can. I wanted a phone that would be practical & would save me money. With Net 10, I am doing just that. I would recommend Net 10 to anyone looking for the same thing: a phone with minutes YOU control.

Re: Net 10 Pre-Paid Wireless Review

Net10 offers a great service especially for people who don’t use their cell phone much. By prepaying $15 a month you have 150 minutes of talk time 24x7/365. You buy a phone from them, but most of their phones come with 2 months and 300 minutes included. That’s it. No hassles or billing surprises.

Unfortunately that doesn’t tell the whole story. Net10’s customer service stinks. Their reps are always polite, sometimes to a fault, but English isn’t their first language (they are based in India, I believe). The phone connection is inevitably lousy as they all use the same cheap headsets. There is often background noise of other reps talking in the background.

Worse of all Net10 has a very rigid policy and procedure manual which is simply non-negotiable. For instance, their “Easy Minutes” program automatically debits your account whenever you need more minutes or days. But they can only start that on the day you place an order. So if you already are manually paying the fee and you switch to “Easy Minutes” you will loose the days still remaining on your account.

Another example, my phone needed replacing so I purchased a new one with 300 minutes and 60 days a day before my time was to expire. I assumed the 60 days would then be added, but no way. The days and the minutes go exclusively to the new phone and would not be applied to the old phone until the new one arrived in a week. Hhhuuu? I bot the days but they didn’t belong to me, they belonged to my yet to be delivered new phone! No amount of begging, pleading or cajoling did any good. I even went up the ladder to the second level supervisor.

But this is not the worst. When I tried to get the new phone registered, they switched me from AT&T to T-mobile. Well I had traveled 37 states some of it on back roads without ever being out of service with AT&T. I wasn’t willing to give that up. I asked for AT&T, which required them to send me a new SIM card. What they didn’t tell me was that because of that, they released my phone number I had used for 3 years. When I called with my new SIM card they only then announced they had given away my old phone number. I tried to appeal the abysmal customer service but to no avail. No amount of begging, pleading or cajoling did any good. Ggggggrrrrr.

If you can live by their rules, you probably will like the service. Just don’t expect any kind of customer service at any time. They simply will not compromise.

Great review! love the detail you put into it. My experince with NET10 has only been positive so far because it costs so much less than what I used to pay on ATT. In my experience the main difference is the fact that the phones are a little more sparse on selection and pray you don't have to call customer service. However, if you want an unlimited smartphone on the Verizon netowrk and 50 extra bucks in your wallet per month, this is it!

Re: Net 10 Pre-Paid Wireless Review

Had a great experience with net10 so far. Some people complain about the customer service but I really haven't had a reason to call them and I've not had a dropped call yet. Learned that this was because they use the Verizon and ATT towers to broadcast their signal, which feels like a steal to get for 50 bucks a month.
