I downloaded "Total Video Converter" and I can't get it to convert the video files from my DVD into a common format such as WMV, MPEG, or AVI, or into sound such as MP3 or WMA, which it says it can do.
I'm not sure what the problem is. Thte files are in a form called ".IFO" which I could only get to play on InterVideo WinDVD, and nothing else.
I'm trying to convert it so I can upload (part) of it on to YouTube, but nothing is working. So, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: What is a really good DVD/video converter?
first, the quality exported video.
The second thing is the ripping speed.
Third, you should try to look for a program that will be able to convert in batch mode.
Fourth, the usability of the converter in other words, whether it is convenient to use.
Fifth, whether the developer provides quality customer support and a free trial version.
so i often use this iMoviesoft's dvd converter /video converter

Re: What is a really good DVD/video converter?
Auto Gordian Knot (AGK) is the mutt's nuts for converting DVD to .AVI (DivX/XviD) format. It's a very simple front-end program for a bunch of other, fairly complex programs that actually do the conversion. It's fairly speedy, and it's free. You can get it from: www (dot) autogk (dot) me (dot) uk.
You may also need a program to deal with the encryption on the DVD in question. DVD Shrink is very good, and also free. Google will find it for you. DVD Fab is faster and more capable, but is not free. They're both pretty simple, and either one will work.
The .IFO files are information files, containing information about chapters, menus, etc., that your DVD player needs. The video stream is in the .VOB (Video OBject) files. And yeah, these will pretty much only play on a DVD player.
Beware copyright issues. I don't care one way or the other, but some folks (MPAA) take this seriously...
