Hello everyone!
My parents just moved to the US from Germany and my mom asked me to look into the issue of getting a cell phone.
My dad has the iPhone with AT&T through the company.
They don't have a landline, so she would use the phone to make all the calls that have to be made during the day.
Now that I looked into some providers plans I find lots of different network standards and plans totally different from what I know from Germany, so that's why I ask you guys for some support.
I think I understand that on any plan, you also pay for incoming minutes and text, so if you have minutes included in a plan, those will vanish when somebody calls me too, is that correct?
My mother will be travelling back to Germany a lot, so it would be nice to have a phone where she can just exchange the SIM card with the German one, when abroad. In Germany we have only GSM networks.
I've been looking at some ads from go-phone and boostmobile. I think that boost looks pretty cheap but I'm not sure if those phones will work in Europe, since they seem to use some network sandards called CDMA and iDEN.
If there's a contract that offers cheap texting or even calls to Germany that would be a beautiful bonus, but thats not really necessary. She could still use Skype for that.

All together I am not really sure about what to consider cheap and what not, since German plans seem to be a lot cheaper.

You guys have any advice on what to go for or look at?
Thanks in advance!
