    Quick Summary
This informative post explains to readers why they should switch from AT&T to a Straight Talk GSM Nokia smartphone that uses AT&Ts 3G network to get just as good or in my experience better service then AT&T itself. If you have heard about slow internet with Straight talk it's other Straight Talk Phones use Verizon's 1G network which is as slow as molasses. It explains how much money you can save by getting Unlimited Minutes, Texts, Internet, Free 411 and even free tethering.

Read on for a deal of a lifetime

I made a account just so I could give you my opinion so you won't make a huge mistake. I have worked for Verizon and have had AT&T before. If your contract is over with AT&T then I totally suggest you going to the Nokia E71 with Straight Talk. If you have heard about Straight Talk before you might of heard the internet is slower than any other service provider. The reason behind this is because all the phone's when the company was introduced by TrakPhone uses Verizon's 1G Network which means the voice quality and signal strength is great but the internet is as slow as molasses. This fact probably gave Straight Talk a bad reputation at first but luckily they released two Nokia Smart Phones, The 6790 and E71, that just so happen to be GSM, and that uss AT&T's 3G network. Straight Talk even gave me an AT&T phone number. From the experience I've had with it the internet is faster than my old droid from Verizon and faster than my friends Iphone which to me doesn't make a bit of sense. 99.9 percent of the time I can hit play on a YouTube video and it will play all the way though without buffering, which is unheard of for any phone other than 4g I ever heard of. It also has Wi-Fi to make it even faster. Using the program that installs from the phone when you plug it in via micro-USB you can sync everything, send texts, share your phones internet connection anywhere your phone has reception which is excellent for students with laptops, and even download maps for the voice guided GPS software Ovi Maps. This is so your phone doesn't have to download the map of your area and reload every time you move a few miles while using GPS. It has an application store which is called the Ovi Store which has tons of different apps games, and ever name brand games like Pacman and Highspeed 3D that are free if you are willing to look at an ad before you start the game which is a concept in phones I've never heard of. You can buy the game if the ads bother you that much. Many third party applications like Google Maps are also available using the internet . I would recommend Straight Talk to anyone that uses a Smart Phone. Because 3G is a whole lot different than 1G I wouldn't recommend using a different Straight Talk phone unless you plan on just using the internet once in a while .

    Lets Compare Two Plans

    Straight Talk Unlimited Everything Plan
(1)Unlimited- Minutes, Text, Internet, Tethering and even free 411 Services
(2)Price for phone $169.00 upfront for the Nokia E71 and $169.88 for the 6790
    (3)Monthly Service is $45.00 plus tax, here that's $2.70
(4)Best of all it uses AT&T's National 3G Network and no contract!!!

AT&T Unlimited Minute Plan Plus Features
I choose two Blackberry phones, The Curve and Bold 9700 in my example because they are comparable to the Nokia E71 in features and I tried to choose the plan and features closest to Straight Talks $45 Unlimited Everything Plan.
    (1)$69.99 Unlimited Minute Plan

    (2)$20.00 Messaging Unlimited
    (3)
$25 for 2GB of internet usage plus $10 for each additional gb after that

(4)$45.00 4GB Tethering For Smartphones plus $10 for each gb that you go over
(5)The Bold is $649.99 for no contract, $299.99 after signing 2 year contract but it says you get an online discount of $299.98; The Curve is $379.99 for no contract, $29.99 after signing 2 year contract.
(6)So the monthly cost of service would be $159.99 plus Government taxes and fees. Plus $1.99 for 411 service which is rediculas.
(7)The first bill you can expect a $36.00 activation fee, prorated bill for the service used before receiving the first bill and a bill for the next month
And that's with 2GB Internet and 4GB Tethering; not even close to the unlimited Straight Talk Offers so there's a chance that price can go up by $10 dollars for each GB you go over. If you don't plan on using Tethering that price would be $45.00 less.

The crazy fact in all this is these GSM Straight Talk phones uses the same exact infrastructure to deliver service as AT&T at 1/3rd the price. It's hard to see where AT&T is coming from with the price other than they had to build the network but you know Straight Talk is paying some of that $45.00 for the right to use the network.

As of now they appear out of stock on StraightTalk.com and Walmart.com but if you go to Walmart's website you can check In-Store stocks at store near you and you might be able to find one. They are in stock at all the Walmart's near me. Hopefully AT&T isn't telling them they can't make anymore for their network.

So how do I get my address book/contact list into a Straight Talk phone? Can I keep my (currently Verizon) phone number with this phone/plan?

The AT-T one seems just a bit better. Don't know why. I guess I am such a fan of blackberrys.

Re: Want Unlimited Everything + Tethering for cheap?

Because of where I live, we can only get dial up access to the internet. So I became interested in using a cell phone plan with unlimited data access. Verizon no longer offers that and I know my step-some has been able to tether using his unlimited verizon data. If I am reading your comments correctly, Straight Talk will provide tethering on their plan. I just read another article that said that Straight Talk prevents tethering (1) for access to the internet, intranets or other data networks except as the device's native applications and capabilities permit or (2) for any applications that tether your device to laptops or personal computers other than for wireless synch. So before I move forward can you set me straight as to whether or not I can tether on Straight Talk

joesun1, I will just say that there is a cheaper monthly cost for using Sprint towers on a true unlimited everything plan. This is all I am allowed to say on here. Just thought I let you know.

Dude you are so wrong, otherwise you would let me know, so any way I'll go down the list for you, ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile all have unlimited but not true unlimited because haha they slow you down no 4g at all not with sprint 4g all the way and i can tell you this because I average 15Gig's a month and it never slows down for me. Now onto the prepaids boost nope, metro nope, virgin nope none of them can offer what sprint offers I have truly unlimited phone calls unlimited texts and you already know unlimited data all for 88.00 a month. BTW had the prepaid plans they suck because of the drop outs or not even calling or just flat out not working screw that!!

joesun1, relax. My company has a partnership with Sprint. Yes, I use prepaid for a lower cost a month for unlimited everything. The key thing here about prepaid is your location. Works just fine in my location. Must not have work fine in your location.

If you get a good location for prepaid, then you can get a lower cost. If not, then you are right that this is a good price for what you are getting.

    Take care,

Re: Want Unlimited Everything + Tethering for cheap? <-----WRONG

JUST WANTED TO LET YOU THE WRITER AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT
    YOU ARE
    WRONG
Dont write **** saying you made an account to help people not make a bad decisin. And explain that you can tether
You obviously havent read any information in the fine print or anywhere online about this phone, i hate dumb fools like you who get a phone and think ohh cool now im gonna tell everyone about it.
    YOU DONT KNOW ****
I had a E71 straightalk, yes great phone
Yes fast amazng internet for a phone like that
Not your typically smart phone tho.
    But YOU CANNOT TETHER
It is against the rules. I did this and within a week or so i got a call from them asking me questions. I figured it was okay considering that actual model of phone is created with itS own program in it to connect to your computer and transer internet to your laptop. But straighhttalks fine print says no using your phone as a modem. I argue with them cuz it seemed ridiculous that the phone has the ability to. And no other comany even has that phone, but i guess that phone isnt made by straight talk and its against there rules to use those features of the phone.
    Also
It is NOT TRULY UNLIMITED DATA
Yes they lied, i dont remember exactly what it was but something lame like 5 gb
I easily went over all the time, i got the awesome 200 phone for the great internet it had, not nowing that companies can hide crucially important information in the fine print and after i continue to go over and didnt answer there calls a few times they shut down my data for the month, luckily it came back on when the next month went thru, but i not changed because i thinks its bull**** they can do that. Luckily not stuck in contract but now have a 200 doller phone for nothing.
ALSO you CANNOT unlock this phone
So if you havent fallen for dumb idiots not knowing what there talking aout on the interent hopefully you read this if your looking for REAL unlimited and ACTUAL Tethering.
For those of you who fell for this idiots ignorance and lack of knowledge before giving out suposid useful information then all i can tell you is the only way to get away with tethering is to use it only in emergency laptop use needs, meaning get on for five minutes and get off. Cuz the phone company can see when huge amounts of data are being pushed thru and well your laptop running one tap online pushes alot more than ur phone does, so even if u dont go over they can tell that its going thru way to fast...
ALSO EVERYONE READ FINE PRINT they seriously hide bull**** in there
I have a ****ty as phone i use for only phone needs becuase i havent found a REALLY unlimited prepaid phone that can tether so for now im stuck paying for ipad and phone u til i find one that isnt full of lies and i can teher my **** together. Good luck to everyone and seriously
NEVER BELIEVE A DOUCHE IN A FORUM always go reasearch your **** your self trust me 99.5% are complete idiots and put there opinions and not real information.

Re: Want Unlimited Everything + Tethering for cheap?

Correct, tethering is against Straight Talk's Terms of Service. If you want tethering you'll need to choose another provider. Virgin Mobile is now allowing tethering for an additional fee, and so is Cricket Wireless, and of course the major carriers, such as Sprint. It's going to be difficult to find truly unlimited everything with tethering. Most carriers do have some type of limit, especially with tethering.

In the straight talk hand book that came with my proclaim
It says on page 2.2 of "knowing your service plan and refill options "

    It says in all caps
*TETHERING TO ANOTHER DEVICE IS PROHIBITED OTHER LIMITATIONS APPLY
    ...
So sorry. I found this article hoping to learn how to tether my phone
But it compelled me to read the hand book for the first time and share what
    I found

When you tether, you're more likely to use more data and that will cost the provider more money. When they offer an unlimited plan that can make it not as profitable for them.
