Willstyle1, with a Nextel phone, you can purchase a price plan that only has direct connect, like the Local Instant Connect DC plan, this plan does not include any cell phone minutes;however, you can use the phone for cellular at a cost of I believe 35 cents per minute (it could be 40 cents), but you can place restrictions on the phone or any phone for that matter, you can have no incoming calls, or no outgoing calls, or both restrictions placed on there, so that the phone can only be used for direct connect. Now you can also opt for taking the phone to a dealer and having them fry the chip to make the phone only capable of direct connect communication. Once this is done, the phone would only be useful for walkie talkie service. Keep in mind when using the direct connect feature, or anyone who buys plans out there, there is a difference between local direct connect, unlimited direct connect and nationwide direct connect. Normal direct connect is within your market, meaning if you call outside of your market, then you will be paying 10 cents per minute, and if you have unlimited nationwide direct connect included in your price plan or buy up option, then you can call from state to state and it won't cost you. Also, when someone chirps someone, if the person responds within 6 seconds, then the person who chirped first would be the initiator of the call, if the person doesn't answer until after 6 seconds, then that recipient who didn't answer right away would be the recipient.
