    Clearing the Cache

NOTE: Unlike master resetting your smartphone, clearing the cache partition will not delete data stored on the phone's internal memory. As such, if you encounter issues with your device and you're considering a factory reset, it's recommended that you first try to wipe the cache and see if it solves the issues. To do so:

    1. Turn off your smartphone
    2. Press and hold the "Volume Down" button
    3. While pressing the volume key, press and release the "Power" button to turn the smartphone on
    4. Keep holding "Volume Down" until you see the three Android images at the lower part of the screen
    5. From the "HBOOT" menu, press "Volume down" to highlight "Recovery"
    6. Press "Power" to confirm the selection
    7. A red triangle should a pop-up on the screen
    8. Press and hold the "Volume Up" and "Power" buttons at the same time
    9. After reaching the "Recovery" menu, release the buttons
    10. Press "Volume Down" to navigate to, and highlight "Wipe cache partition"
    11. Press the "Power" key to select the option
    12. Wait for the device to display "Cache wipe complete"
    13. With "Reboot system now" highlighted, press the "Power" key

NOTE: if wiping the cache has not solved the issues, then you might have to factory reset your smartphone. For a full guide on how to apply a master reset on the HTC One (M8), visit this link.

    Safe Mode Management

NOTE: Safe Mode is a great tool that allows you to uninstall third party applications that may prevent you from doing so in normal mode. In safe mode, all third party apps are disabled.

    Enabling Safe Mode:

    1. With the smartphone turned on, press and hold the "Power" button
    2. Tap and hold the "Power off" option on the touchscreen
    3. Once the "Reboot to safe mode" message appears, confirm by pressing "Restart"
    4. Your smartphone should now reboot in safe mode

Uninstalling an Application from Safe Mode:

    1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Under "Phone", tap "Apps"
    4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen and select the desired app
    5. Tap "Uninstall" and confirm by pressing "OK"

    To Exit Safe Mode:

    1. Press and hold the "Power" button
    2. Tap and hold "Restart" under "Phone Options"
    3. From the "Restart phone?" message, tap "Restart"
    4. Wait for your handset to reboot in normal mode

I have also done this once with my phone to solve an issue with the headphone jack not working. Now my phone is really laggy and slow and I was attempting to do this again but I cannot get to the screen to wipe the cache. From the screen with the phone and the triangle with the exclamation mark, when holding power and volume up, it just goes to the white HTC boot screen. If I release the buttons, the phone boots. If I continue holding the buttons, the phone cycles the white HTC boot screen over and over

Ok, I have figured out the issue. Hold the volume up button and press the power button once for about a second and continue to hold the volume up button.

Re: HTC One (M8): Clearing the Cache Partition and Rebooting in Safe Mode to Uninstall Apps

I Have tried this and I still can't get into the recovery screen. I get to the red triangle fine, but then it doesn't seem to matter how long I hold down the volume up button I still can't get into the recovery screen. If I press and release the power key nothing happens - no matter how long I carry on pressng the Vol up button. As soon as I press the power key for more than a second the phone reboots!! Is there another way to do this? I am getting desperate as I have literally thousands of files in the Cache! Can I manually delete them from the phone using my laptop?!
    Thanks fpr any help!
