How-to: HTC One M9: Master Reset via Settings or Recovery

WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the internal memory. This includes images, ringtones, contacts and so on. Master Reset via Settings:

1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
2. Go to "Settings"
3. Under "Personal" tap "Backup & reset"
4. Enable or disable "Backup my data" and "Automatic restore"
5. Tap "Reset phone"
6. In case your phone is protected by a PIN / password / lock screen, enter the unlocking information to proceed
7. Optionally tap "Erase SD Card". WARNING! This will delete all content from the SD card so back up any information you need before checking this option
8. Tap "OK", and "OK" again in the "Warning" pop-up
9. Tap "OK" to allow your phone to perform the master reset

Master Reset Using Hardware Keys:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes or otherwise prevents you from resetting it through the settings menu using the method above, you can try factory resetting it from recovery mode, by pressing a combination of hardware buttons. Use the method below if resetting via Settings is not an option.

1. Press and hold the "Power" button
2. Tap "Power off"
3. Press and hold the "Volume Down" button
4. Press and release "Power" to turn on the phone (Keep pressing "Volume down")
5. When a black screen with red and blue lines of text appears, release the "Volume down" button
6. Use the volume rocker to navigate the menu and highlight "Factory reset"
7. Press the "Power" key to select the highlighted option and reset you phone
