Back Up the HTC One M8s to Google Drive:
- Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
- Tap "Backup & reset" > "Backup account"
- Tap "HTC Account" and if necessary, sign in with your HTC account (NOTE: you can also use a Facebook or Google account)
- In the "Cloud Storage" screen tap "Google Drive" > "OK"
- Sign in with your Google account to access Drive
- Set "Automatic backup" "ON" to enable auto back up
- To manually back up your data, tap "Back up now"
NOTE: You can create auto daily backups by going to "Settings" > "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi"
Restore Data from Google Drive after a fresh Reset:
- Turn your phone on after a fresh factory reset and use "Restore from HTC Backup" when prompted
- Sign in with the account containing the backup
- Open the history menu and choose the desired backup
- Tap "Next" and sign in with your Google account
- Allow HTC Backup to connect to Google Drive
- Tap "Next" when the files have been restored
Create Local Backups and Restore them
Back Up Contacts:
- Tap "Phone" from the home screen
- Access the "Phone" tab
- Press "Menu" and tap "Manage Contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to SD card"
- Tap "Export to phone storage" and choose an account
- To set a password for the backup file, tap "Yes"
- Tap "OK" to confirm and create the backup
Restore Contacts:
- Open the "People" app
- Press "Menu" > "Manage Contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export contacts"
- Depending on the location of the backup file, tap "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD Card"
- Select an account if necessary
- Highlight the backup file and tap "OK"
- If the backup is password protected, enter the security information and tap "OK"
Back Up Messages:
- Open "Messages"
- Press "Menu" > "Backup / Restore SMS"
- Next, tap "Back up" and select "Back up SMS"
- Set a password for the file if you want
- Enter a name for the file
- Tap "OK"
Back Up Text Messages via Email:
- Launch "Messages"
- Press "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS"
- Tap "Back up"
- Select to "Back up SMS via email"
- Choose whether you wish to password protect the file or not
- Send the email with the attached back up SMS file to your email address
NOTE: To restore messages from email, open the email containing the back up file, download the file and import it using the "Messages" app
Back Up / Restore Tasks:
- Open the "Tasks" app
- In the task list, press "menu"
- Tap "Import / Export"
- Tap "Export to SD card"
NOTE: To restore tasks open the application and press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "import from SD card"
Back Up a Dictionary:
- Launch the phone's "Settings" menu
- Tap "Language & Keyboard"
- Tap "HTC Sense Input"
- Select "Personal dictionary" and tap "Menu"
- Tap "Back up to storage" or "Back up to email"
- Press "OK"
