I gave my iPaq 4700 to my son for x-mas, knowing that my wife was buying me the PPC-6700. Like having a phone and PDA in one device. I depend on being able to connect to the Internet via Wifi. I used my iPaq for this and was willing to give up a few hundred mHz as long as I could still do so. And I can but the problem is in the Wep code.

Everytime I come into my house the devise tells me a new network is detected. It offers me two radio buttons when it detects my "MSHome" hotspot.
The Internet(or work via a VPN) -or-
    Work

I select The Internet(or work via a VPN) option and then I am presented with a request for the Wep code. No problem. I happily type in the 26 character Wep code for my MS router and "Bingo!!" I am surfing the web.

But the problem arises when I disconnect, and/or go out of range. When I re-acquire I am asked to re-enter the WEP code. That is the nag.

The PPC-6700 uses WM5 whereas my iPaq used WM2003. The iPaq persistanly stored Wep codes and I never had to re-enter them. I have even returned to hotels months later and discovered that the Wep code I had entered on a previous visit was still valid.

I have gone into the Configure Wireless Network screen, identified my Network, selected Network Key, unchecked the "The key is automatically provided" box and enter the Network key but it seems to work for one session, only.

This is not acceptable and if I cannot resolve it, I will need to return the phone to Sprint for a refund. Has anyone esle encountered this problem?

I nearly have my wep memorized for I use this feature so regularly for my business that I can't pass it up.

Anothen minor anoyance it that cutting the Wep from a text document and trying to paste it into the Wep line does not work. The paste is not active.

I will reply to my own post. I returned to the SprintPCS store and stated the case above. I bantered with the manager who stated I was trying to use the device in ways it was not designed. He stated that EVDO was how the 6700 expected to access the Internet. I explained that I travel quit often and stay in hotels outside of the US where I am quite sure EVDO is not available but all the hotels I choose have WiFi access, lest I won't stay there. I depend on this access for E-mail.

Finally I had to pull a manual out of the box in the store and show him the design specifications as deliniated in the manual. At that point he surrendered but stated, "that is not how it was explained to him".

He was not able to resolve the Wep issue nor even connect to his own WiFi hotspot. So that is where this thread rests.
