I had the same problem and a hard reset fixed it. Depending on how much software you have on your phone, that may take anywhere between 8 minutes, right up to several hours if you're as anal with your device as I am. Here's how I do it; this way I don't miss a step:
1. Make sure your battery is charged.
2. On your phone, open notes and create a note with any content (explanation to follow).
3. Make sure the sync options have the "notes" set to sync. It wouldn't hurt to do the same with the documents if you're married to them (like I am). They're both unchecked by default.
4. Sync your phone.
5. On your computer, open Outlook and check the notes. If you see the note you created in the first step, you have synched successfully (wow, that made sense!)
6. Go to Start/Settings/System/Remove Programs to get a list of all the software you have installed and write it down. That way you won't forget an install after the hard reset.
7. On your computer, delete the partnership with your phone. That won't get rid of your documents. If you successfully synched, all your data should be backed up in Outlook, which is what you confirmed in step 5. If you didn't, go do it before you proceed.
8. Hard Reset: simultaneously press the two buttons that have the dots on them (right above the phone buttons) and the soft reset button (hole at the base of your phone) and hold 'till you get a hard-reset screen prompt. Follow the instructions on screen. THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA AND REVERT TO THE LAST ROM STATE.
9. Manually calibrate the screen, set the time etc. After the initial setup, the phone will go into a customization mode which will end in an automatic soft-reset. Let it do all that.
10. Plop the personal information back into your phone (like the owner name, contact number, etc), and name the phone (Start/Settings/System/About/Device ID).
11. Plug the phone back into your computer and set the new partnership (just follow prompts). Given that you deleted the old partnership, you can give the partnership the same old name. NOTE: on some computers (depending on the sync version you have) the old partnership will remain in the sync program's list after deletion. That's normal, after you sync, that will go away (or be replaced by the new one with the same name if you opted to go that way)
12. Check the notes on your phone. You should have the note you first created in step 2. That confirms that everything, right up to the most recent information, has been updated.
13. Install the software you used to have
14. Have a tuna sandwich
Hope this helps
