Hi ladies and gentlemen,
I am planning on buying a new smartphone. I never had a HTC before and I was wondering how good the HTC Touch Diamond is.
The fact that it can function as a gps as well is a big plus as I need a new gps as well. Question is how good is the gps?
Thanks in advance.

I like the features, the esoteric, etc..but eventhough there's 4gb built-in memory I don't like that you don't have the option of adding more.
I was very tempted as I have a SERO plan so being able to use such a phone with the plan I have would be optimal (and an alternative to the cheaper Instinct that requires a higher priced plan ) It all depends on how you feel about using onscreen keyboard and such. The Touch Pro looks like it would be better, but I could imagine how much more it will cost.
As compared to the iPhone, I've heard problems about it, mainly the new 3g. Something about the call quality.

I've been looking at the diamond lately, really tempted to get one. Seems everyone with one is more than happy with it.
I'd much prefer it to the iPhone.

also, would reception be expected to be any better on the HTC pro coming out soon, or can you expect them to be identical

Re: HTC Touch Diamond worth it?
In addition, there are a few improvements over the original Touch. For instance, Sprint has added a larger battery life, by as much as 50%, and upped the anty in the data connectivity department with the addition of an EVDO chip, although they only achieved a 650Kbps download speed at best. Overall from GPS pont of view, I believe that the Touch Diamond is better than iPhone. Dunno about the new Nokia 5800 and Blackberry Storm, though. My best suggestion is for you to compare the specs of the three phones. Good luck!

Re: HTC Touch Diamond worth it?
Hi,
As per my opinion it is worth. Because I have been using it. If you think about GPS then you can use tomtom 6.x to enable and use that.
Major benefit is support for 3G technology, Huge 4 GB storage capacity and 3.2 mega pixel camera. I get awesome photographs out of it.
Cheers

Re: HTC Touch Diamond worth it?
I would definitely go for it, I'm really happy with mine. The phone is sleek and it fits nicely in your hand. Everything works and flows well, the battery life is a little weak especially using bluetooth and email (at a refresh rate of 1 hour). But overall, this is everything I could ask for. WELL I wish it had the vibrate touch screen thing.

Re: HTC Touch Diamond worth it?
Oh and to answer your questions, HTC is a big brand name and their devices are pretty solid, I have plenty of experience with them because I repair them for a major wireless company. Also as for GPS, at least on Sprint (yeah this is where I work), it works awsome especially with Telenav (Sprint Navigation). Telenav may have improved or the GPS chipsets are better at location recording, but it will tell me where I need to turn well before the turn and unlike before it seems I have plenty of time to get to another lane if I have to.

Re: HTC Touch Diamond worth it?
To me, the problem with having no keyboard is a big negative.
It is not a good phone if you are going to be messing around with it or doign any heavy typing/texting, especially since the screen is not multitouch.
The lack of external storage is a large negative for me as well. While it is true that the phone has 4gigs of built in memory, it has no slots to plugs in any additional and external memory, so you can never expand its capacity or be able to remove the card or quick access (I set my phone to store all my recorded audio/video, documents, pictures, etc on my MicroSD card so I can easily plug it into anything else and access all my files).
That being said however, the Diamond is a great phone all other things considered. It functions well as well as looks stylish, and is a fairly small PocketPC phone to boot.
It's alternative would be of course the HTC Touch Pro, which is basically a Diamond with tv out, extermal memory slot, and keyboard, but its much much bulkier and of course costs more.

Get the pro, the keyboard and external microSD slot is worth it. The GPS is fine in southern cal, along with phone reception.
