this is due to my experience with HTC phones. I had an HTC phone brought from one of their dealers. I own an HTC P300 CDMA phone that was purchased in Mumbai. This phone had some problem with the ringer after just 8 months of use so I delivered the same to their service center in Mumbai Salora International.
They took almost 15 days to do some repair and I collected the same from them. On starting up I found that this time the earpiece was faulty and I could not hear the calling parties voice. I sent the same back again to Salora and they said they have repaired the fault and handed the phone back to me. No when I use the phone it has sprung a new problem and the phone disconnects automatically after a couple of seconds into a call. I wrote about this problem to HTC Taiwan addressed letters to their Head of customer service and then again after not receiving a reply to their Chief operating Officer. STILL NO RESPONSE. This clearly shows that these people build lousy phones which will conk off and they donot care a damn about their customers. Also their service is Third Grade.
This is the last time i touch an HTC phone back to good old Nokia and Apple for me and my advice to one and all id DONOT BUY HTC PHONES they will conk off and YOU WILL NOT GET SERVICE.

Re: Dont buy htc phones
I've got an HTC S730. Not terribly happy, not terribly unhappy. More unsatisfied with the operating system than with the hardware.

Re: Dont buy htc phones
I've been using HTC phones for a while now and have only had problems with the OS. Hardware is never a problem for me (at least not yet).

I hope that you're experiences change.
Although I have had some poor experience with my Touch Pro. I still find it to be a great phone!

Re: Dont buy htc phones
I'm happy with my mogul, it's over two years old never had any problems. I have done the HTC upgrades no hacks or cooked roms and still use it everyday.

My HTC Diamond works very well up till now. You cannot generalize your experience to all HTC products.

Re: Dont buy htc phones
I've heard quite a few horror stories about dealing with HTC (the company) directly so I actually believe you.
I myself love HTC phones. I've had the HTC 6700, the HTC mogul, HTC Touch Pro (Raphael), and now the HTC Touch Pro2 (Rhodium). I switched to HTC after dealing with Palms (the treo line) for quite some time with great unhappiness (slooooooooow fixes on the firmware, poor hacks, old outdated software, dying OS)
When I something goes wrong with my phone I go straight to my provider (Sprint) to have it repaired/replaced. Does yours offer that type of insurance that you could perhaps purchase so you can avoid dealing with HTC and use your carrier instead? In theory, while under warranty, you should be able to go straight to HTC without any hassle but I've heard too many people complain about rejection, slowness, and hassle to say that that's a good idea.
Sorry I can't really offer any other suggestion other than to check with your carrier for insurance options.
