In case your device is running slow or is unresponsive, rebooting the handset by pressing the Power button can help fixing these issues. If the problems persist after reboot, you may need to reset your device and bring it back to factory settings.

WARNING! Resetting your smartphone using the settings menu or hardware keys will result in loss of all your personal data, including all of the downloaded apps, settings, personal information and files, contacts and more. Data stored on the SIM card will not be lost.

To prevent loss of data, you can perform a backup before following the steps below. To learn about backing up your data on the HTC Desire 500, please follow this link.

Performing a Master Reset via the Settings Menu:

    1. Open the notifications panel by swiping down from the top of the screen
    2. Tap the "Settings" icon
    3. Tap "Backup & reset" and select "Reset phone"
    4. To delete media files and other similar data on your device, select "Erase all data"
    5. Tap "OK"

Performing a Factory Reset Using Hardware Buttons:

In case your smartphone froze up and is completely unresponsive, or cannot boot completely in order to be able and perform a reset through the settings menu (as described above), then the alternative is to perform a hard reset using hardware buttons. To do so:

    1. Remove the battery on your device and wait for a few seconds
    2. Insert the battery back in its slot
    3. Press and hold the "Volume Down" button, and then press and hold the "Power" button
    4. Wait for the screen containing three Android images to appear, and then release the "Volume down" and "Power" buttons
    5. Press the "Volume down" to highlight the "Factory Reset" option, and then press the "Power" button to confirm your action
    6. Wait for your smartphone to perform the reset and boot up again

Re: HTC Desire 500: Hard Reset via Settings or Hardware Keys

Before you decide to Hard Reset HTC Desire 500 Dual Sim, please test the following process to repair your mobile. First step charge your battery, backup your mobile critical data if possible and in most condition take out SIM and SD card before doing factory reset. That is unfeasible to recover your mobile data after doing a hard reset, so online backing up is always important. For all of your mobile data, a backup data should be done on an external tool, hard drive, raid system or media. With or without fuse, if your mobile phone lost, broken or stolen at least your inestimable data is backed up in a safe room. If you decide to sell your mobile and you try to wipe your private data, or if your phone touched with virus you have to do a hard reset. Sometimes, you can delete the out-of-mind password or lock pattern from your mobile as well.
