NOTE: HTC Backup can be used to create daily backups in the cloud via Google Drive.

Backing Up the HTC Desire EYE to Google Drive:

  1. Swipe the "Notification" bar down with two fingers, while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Backup & reset"
  3. Tap "Backup account" > "HTC Account"
  4. Log in with your HTC account. NOTE: a Google or Facebook account can also be used
  5. From the "Cloud storage" screen, tap "Google Drive" > "OK"
  6. Sing in with your Google account in order to gain access to Google Drive
  7. If prompted, allow HTC Backup to access Google Drive
  8. To automatically back up data, turn the "Automatic backup" switch to "ON"
  9. To manually back up data, tap "Back up now"

NOTE: To automatically perform daily backups via Wi-Fi go to "Settings" > "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi"

Restoring Data from Google Drive after a Factory Reset:

  1. After factory resetting the HTC Desire EYE, reboot your phone and tap "Restore from HTC backup"
  2. Sign in with the account used for the initial backup
  3. Select the backup file from the history menu
  4. Tap "Next" and sign in with your Google account, if necessary
  5. Allow HTC Backup to connect to Drive
  6. After the files have been restored, tap "Next"

Creating Local Backups and Restoring Data

Backing Up Contacts:

  1. Launch the "Phone" application
  2. Access the "People" tab and press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
  4. Tap "Export to SD Card" > "Export to phone storage"
  5. Select the desired account type
  6. To set a password, tap "Yes" and follow the on-screen steps
  7. Tap "OK" to create the backup file

Restoring Contacts:

  1. Launch the "People" application and access the "People" tab
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
  3. Select to "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD card", depending on the location of the backup file
  4. Select an account if necessary
  5. Select the backup file you wish to restore, and tap "OK"
  6. Assuming that the file is protected by a password, enter it and tap "OK"

Backing Up Messages:

  1. Open the "Messages" app and press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Backup / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS"
  4. Optionally, set a password for the file
  5. Enter the file's name and press "OK" to confirm

Backing Up Text Messages Using Email:

  1. Launch the "Messages" app
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS via email"
  4. Tap "Do not password protect this backup", or choose to set a password if desired
  5. Enter your email address in the "To" field and send the email

NOTE: Text messages can be restored by opening the email, downloading the file and importing it via the "Messages" app

Backing Up and Restoring Tasks:

  1. Launch the "Tasks" application
  2. Access the list of tasks and tap "Menu"
  3. Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"

NOTE: to restore your tasks, follow the first 2 steps above and then tap "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card"

Backing Up Your Dictionary:

  1. Swipe the "Notification" bar down using two fingers
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "Language & keyboard"
  3. Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal dictionary"
  4. Press "Menu" and tap "Back up to storage"
  5. Tap "Back up to email" > "OK"

Restoring a Dictionary:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Language & Keyboard"
  3. Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal Dictionary"
  4. Press "Menu" > "Restore from storage"
  5. Tap "OK" to confirm
