NOTE: HTC Backup can be used to create daily backups in the cloud via Google Drive.
Backing Up the HTC Desire EYE to Google Drive:
- Swipe the "Notification" bar down with two fingers, while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Backup & reset"
- Tap "Backup account" > "HTC Account"
- Log in with your HTC account. NOTE: a Google or Facebook account can also be used
- From the "Cloud storage" screen, tap "Google Drive" > "OK"
- Sing in with your Google account in order to gain access to Google Drive
- If prompted, allow HTC Backup to access Google Drive
- To automatically back up data, turn the "Automatic backup" switch to "ON"
- To manually back up data, tap "Back up now"
NOTE: To automatically perform daily backups via Wi-Fi go to "Settings" > "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi"
Restoring Data from Google Drive after a Factory Reset:
- After factory resetting the HTC Desire EYE, reboot your phone and tap "Restore from HTC backup"
- Sign in with the account used for the initial backup
- Select the backup file from the history menu
- Tap "Next" and sign in with your Google account, if necessary
- Allow HTC Backup to connect to Drive
- After the files have been restored, tap "Next"
Creating Local Backups and Restoring Data
Backing Up Contacts:
- Launch the "Phone" application
- Access the "People" tab and press "Menu"
- Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
- Tap "Export to SD Card" > "Export to phone storage"
- Select the desired account type
- To set a password, tap "Yes" and follow the on-screen steps
- Tap "OK" to create the backup file
Restoring Contacts:
- Launch the "People" application and access the "People" tab
- Tap "Menu" > "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
- Select to "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD card", depending on the location of the backup file
- Select an account if necessary
- Select the backup file you wish to restore, and tap "OK"
- Assuming that the file is protected by a password, enter it and tap "OK"
Backing Up Messages:
- Open the "Messages" app and press "Menu"
- Tap "Backup / Restore SMS"
- Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS"
- Optionally, set a password for the file
- Enter the file's name and press "OK" to confirm
Backing Up Text Messages Using Email:
- Launch the "Messages" app
- Tap "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS"
- Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS via email"
- Tap "Do not password protect this backup", or choose to set a password if desired
- Enter your email address in the "To" field and send the email
NOTE: Text messages can be restored by opening the email, downloading the file and importing it via the "Messages" app
Backing Up and Restoring Tasks:
- Launch the "Tasks" application
- Access the list of tasks and tap "Menu"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
NOTE: to restore your tasks, follow the first 2 steps above and then tap "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card"
Backing Up Your Dictionary:
- Swipe the "Notification" bar down using two fingers
- Go to "Settings" and tap "Language & keyboard"
- Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal dictionary"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Back up to storage"
- Tap "Back up to email" > "OK"
Restoring a Dictionary:
- Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
- Tap "Language & Keyboard"
- Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal Dictionary"
- Press "Menu" > "Restore from storage"
- Tap "OK" to confirm
