WARNING! When you master reset your phone all of the personal data stored on the internal memory will be lost, including downloaded content, contacts, media files, ringtones etc. Your phone’s settings will also be restored to factory values.

NOTE: To learn how you can back up and restore data on the HTC Desire 626s before resetting it, visit this thread. You can also learn how to sync / transfer data via HTC Sync Manager in this thread.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Under “Personal”, tap “Backup & reset
  4. Enable or disable “Automatic restore” and “Backup my data
  5. Tap “Reset phone” and in case your phone is password protected, enter the necessary security credentials to proceed
  6. Optionally you can “Erase SD Card”. WARNING! This will remove all content stored on the SD
  7. At the “Warning” pop-up, tap “OK” and wait for the phone to reset

Master Reset via Recovery (Hardware Keys):

NOTE: If your phone prevents you from resetting it via Settings (method above), you can try resetting it via Recovery instead. To access Recover you need to perform a sequence of button presses:

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down
  3. Press and release “Power” (ensure the volume key is pressed)
  4. When the phone shows a black screen with blue and red lines of text, release all hardware buttons
  5. From the menu, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Navigate the bootloader menu using “Volume down” and highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. When you see a red triangle with an exclamation mark, hold “Power” and press & release “Volume Up
  10. In the Recovery menu, press “Volume Down” to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  11. Press “Power” and highlight “yes – delete all user data
  12. Press “Power” again and the phone will start resetting
  13. When the process is done, press “Power” with “Reboot system now” highlighted

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you factory reset your phone you should check for new software updates:

  1. Tap “Apps” and go to “Settings
  2. Under “Phone”, tap “About
  3. Tap “Software information
  4. Press “Check now”. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it
