WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloads etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you master reset your device, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data. Keep in mind that data stored on the SD and SIM Cards will not be deleted by the factory reset.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Backup & reset” and turn “Automatic Restore” and “Back up my data” ON or OFF
  5. Tap “Reset phone”
  6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
  7. Optionally, you can choose to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data stored on the SD card will be deleted by the master reset
  8. At the “WARNING” pop-up, tap “OK” to confirm and reset your device

Master Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via the Settings menu, alternatively you can try to reset the device from the Android System Recovery menu. You can access the menu by performing a combination of button presses:

  1. Ensure the device is turned OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. Release “Power” when the phone vibrates
  4. When you see the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” too
  5. From the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery mode”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm
  9. Wait for the HTC logo and the “No Command” screen to appear
  10. Press and hold “Power” and tap “Volume down”
  11. When you gain access to “Android Recovery”, release “Power”
  12. Form the Recovery menu, navigate using “Volume down” and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  13. Press “Power” to select the option
  14. Highlight “Yes – delete all user data” to confirm and press “Power”
  15. After the reset is complete, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you have factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check for new software updates.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to and tap “About”
  4. Tap “Software information”
  5. Check if a new update is available, and follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates if applicable. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
