Using the 6200 on AT&T in Seattle, I find the reception generally to be
quite bad. It routinely drops calls, blanks out for several seconds at a
time during calls, misses calls, and fails to make calls. But I have
seen numerous user reviews of this phone praising the reception, some of
them specifically in Seattle.
I spoke to an AT&T rep for quite a while this morning, and she claimed
that GSM phones need to power-cycled at least three times a day, because
"the memory on the SIM card fades", which sounded pretty ridiculous to
me. However I just tried it, and even immediately after a reboot I had
the phone disconnect me 4 times during a half hour conversation.
I already had the phone replaced once, and the new one is acting exactly
the same as the old one. I have the 3.10 version of the firmware, and I
set the GPRS to "as needed" (a suggestion I found googling this group).
Could I have gotten two bad phones in a row?
Since I transferred the SIM card from the original phone, I wonder if
there is any chance that the problem is there, and not the phone. Does
that sound plausible? Should I try to get AT&T to send me a new SIM
card? Any other ideas?
