Sorry for the lack of description in my title.

Here is my situation. I have a family plan with three phones. I need to add a line to my plan and take advantage of the current $9.99 for the additional line on my plan but I need the number to be local to Little Rock, AR due to work arrangements. I've called Cingular 3 times with no good answer as to why they can't do this. They claim it's because they are in different "markets" and how their billing works.

I checked with Verizon, T-Mobile, and All-Tel - they could do this no problem. With other providers I can have one phone that is local to Memphis and one phone that is local to Los Angles, CA on the same plan. Cingular tells me I'd have to sign up for a second plan to get a # in Little Rock.

I've thought about getting a VOIP type service that I can get a local Little Rock # and forward it to my cell phone which should serve the same purpose but why can't Cingular do this?

Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this with Cingular or a technical reason as to why they can't?

    Thanks!

    question:

in this day and age of unlimited long distance, why is it that important? i can see if you would be getting a phone for a child in college in a far away city. they would probably need a local number to where they attend school. but if it's for business, how often are you using the 'little rock' '#? why can't the business just call you. they should have a decent calling plan. and you probably have nationwide free long distance per your contract with cingular.

i'm assuming if you're explaining it this way, they're vetoing it because you're asking to split a 'family' plan across the country for 'business' use. i'm sure they offer some sort of product/service for business that your plan is infringing on, unintentionally or not.

that would be my take on it.
