The unlocked phone, does it operate on the 850 MHz, that Cingular uses?

Check the network settings and see if it can be changed, so that it us using 850/1900

Well the main Freq has been 850 for years at least on the Cingular side anyway. The old AT&T side would have been 1900, but they have been phasing out those towers.

Are you Blue or Orange? As that would make a big difference on which freq your phones would look for (towerwise). Also if they were working on the 1900 freq in an area that is T-Mobile, that may be part of the reason for the phones no longer working on the 1900 freq (Cingular no longer has a roaming agreement with T-Mobile in many areas).

Otherwise it would have to be a network problem to just stop all of a sudden.
What city/town are you in? This way we can see if anyone else on the forums, may also be in your area, that may or may not be having the same problem.

Well my phones are still blue sim cards ( AT&T) .. Network come and goes and that is what is so weird..

I did talk to Cingular and they are functional on 850 and 1900 ...

T mobile is on 900 - 1800 in Kentucky so i dont know...

    Location: Louisville - Kentucky

More and more of my friends and co workers gettings this issue.. I was on support yesterday too and they keep saying that more and more people have this issue so really i dont know what is going on and neither do they..

They just keep saying that network is fine..

Only solution that they can provide is that to change plan and get new phones but i am trying to not to change plan.

If i have to change plan ill just move to T-Mobile cuz their plans are much better..

Obviously if it is on more then one phone and also happening to other people as well the network is not "fine". Cingular is giving you the runaround.

If you are out of contract and were looking to switch, now would be as good of a time as any. Especially if you like tmobile plans and the coverage works for you. One clarification, though. Tmobile works on 850 and 1900 across the US, same as cingular. The 900/1800 bands are used overseas. This is important if you want to switch because you can take your unlocked phones to tmobile an only have to replace the SIMs.

Try this: After making sure the SIM is seated properly, key #002# , hit send/call, make note of the message displayed, if any, then power the phone off and back on again. Give the phone a few moments to boot itself back up not unlike a computer does. If the phone works terrific, if not call CS, be prepared to cite the message that was displayed upon trying this procedure. If CS can't help, request to speak to a supervisor, and maybe a tech rep. If they use terminology that is unfamiliar to you ask them what that means, and how it affects service. If alot of people in your area are experiencing the same problem, go to the cingular website, urge them to do the same and send them email regarding the issue(s). They have formed a dedicated unit for handling emails to determine more speedily, commonality of problems and if they are regional or national, etc. in order to prioritize and resolve them more quickly. Go to www.cingular.com, scroll to the lower left portion of the page if you are "blue" and click other cingular links, then click on contact us at the top of the page(if you haven't done so already, register "My Account"--the directions to do so are on the site).
Additionally, if you squawk politely and persist (my money is good and reliable, I simply expect the service I pay for to be the same), you can probably at the very least get a credit applied to your bill. If it seems meager, don't be afraid to ask, is that the best you can do?
Recently in my state they had been working on the systems, wish I could remember the specific word they used. Anyway, I was having problems with inability to make calls due to network congestion and in being a Cingular "blue" I was programmed to hold on to the signal from the ATT tower, no matter how weak even if the Cingular tower would provide me a stronger signal (I believe that the roaming agreement with T-mobile has expired--it was a 3-yr agreement ATT made with them, I DO know that the option is no longer available to me in the network settings). These were recurring frequent issues for about 2 months, but seem to have been resolved. In other words, they fixed the system so that my phone will now pick up the stronger of the tower signals. Over the course of those two months I was credited more than $50, and sent a new SIM+ card free of charge, to include S&H. On top of that, the CSR with whom I built a rapport with, called me 2x to check back with me. Yeah, I know...unheard of...Gloria was awesome and truly comitted to providing stellar customer service. My phone is dual band 850/1900. In some regions Cingular operates at the 850MHZ, in other regions 1900. A couple months back I ran across a list of carriers, with the region they operated in and on which frequency, but I'll be hanged if I could find it today for you. Hope this helps.

I feel your frustration. Try the email approach....can't hurt. Did you try to speak with a supervisor? I would be adamant about presenting my case to them, I mean what good is cell phone if you can't use it and feeling robbed for it as well? For me it's essential cuz I don't have landline.
