Re: Pentium or AMD?
Heh, I never had problem with PIII and P4, but only difference is for what I see AMD has faster bus speed than Intel, however Intel has processor speed is much faster than AMD... I don't see anything difference??? I would go for AMD or Intel whichever I like the computer style first lol... I got to have the best specs also... =)

Re: Pentium or AMD?
i work at Best Buy and AMD's sell alot quicker than Intel's do... We don't have ANY Intel P4 computers on the shelfs anymore... Only Pentium D's and AMD Athlon 64's or Athlon 64 X2's...
Everyone at work buys AMD's!

Re: Pentium or AMD?
I would have to go with AMD any day of the week. My buddy and I just took his Athlon 64 1.8 GHz machine and overclocked it to 2.755 GHZ. Not only does it run stable and cool, it tears the face off of a P4 3.8 Extreme in all benchmark tests we put it through. But it sounds like with the new chips that Intel is going to be putting out, AMD might struggle for the next year or so. I guess only time will tell...

Re: Pentium or AMD?
I intend to upgrade my pc within a few months as I have an old pc which is on its last legs . Since I haven't really kept up to date with computer hardware for a while now...I'm kind of clueless and confused as to which processor I should get...I mean there is so many now with different types of sockets etc..
what do you recommend for me?
Although I'm not really a gamer..I do however run alot of cpu intensive programs.
Thanks for any suggestions

Re: Pentium or AMD?
Ok, here is a brief description of AMD vs Intel.
Intel used to be alot better than AMD in ever aspect, it was mroe expensive but it was better. Then AMD released its Athlon XP line and it was cheaper and faster than Intels, then when the Athlon 64's came in they were ALOT cheaper and ALOT better than the Pentium 4's, the Pentium 4's were way over priced. Then when the Intel Dual Cores released and AMD dual cores released Intel was crap and it was beat out by AMD in price and in performance. Now that the new AM2 is released and the Conroe will be coming out, Intel will finally pwn AMD, once again. If you are planning to build a computer wait for Conroe, if you cant wait get an AMD AM2 Cpu.
