I have an old Yamaha psr-510 keyboard and can do MIDIs. Problem is, I've never connected it to my computer. I need help regarding what I need and what to do! No technical terms coz I'm really dumb!

You need a pair of midi leads (with "midi out" and "midi in" on one end which fit into the back of your keyboard and a connector that fits into your sound card at the back of your computer which is the equivalent to a joystick connector)
Someone else will probably be able to give you the name of those type of connectors!
Good luck!Last edited by Si; 04-30-2003 at 03:09 AM.

That is correct. There are a couple of ways you can do it. First is the way described before. You use a parallel (DB25) to MIDI converter, which is used from your sound card. The other way only works if you have a 1/4 inch jack out on your Keyboard and a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch converter. I may have gotten the sizes wrong, but I'll explain. The 1/4 inch are the ones commonly used for electric guitar and the 1/8 inch are headphone jacks. You connect the 1/4 inch from the keyboard to the converter and connect the 1/8 inch to your computer on the line in. You may have to go in and change your computer settings to unmute line in. The reason for doing this is if you have a high bitrate sample such as a 128 MB Stienway Grand Piano Sample (like I do), you don't want that running through your MIDI because your computer's MIDI board will convert it into it's own sample losing your high quality sound. I hope this helps.
