Those of you who have followed the mobile market for the past year or so, should remember that, before its launch, the HTC One was known under the codename "HTC M7". You should also know that the HTC One has been launched in Q2 2013, and that we're definitely getting closer to that moment when the One will be replaced by a new flagship. In fact, fresh rumors have now started to hit the web, concerning the so-called "HTC M8". This particular device is expected to be the successor of the HTC One, and interestingly enough, the image above is allegedly depicting the back panel of the device.

Now, I know what you're thinking. The back panel depicted above shares the same design as the HTC One. However, there's one big exception: the panel above shows a round hole right above the camera. What's it for, we currently don't know, but it might be some type of sensor, or a fingerprint scanner of sorts.

Spec-wise, rumors have it that the HTC One successor will feature a 5 inch or a 5.2 inch display with a 2K resolution, a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor under the hood and 3 GB of RAM. HTC fans are also expecting Sense 6 to be introduced with this next flagship.

If HTC's schedule from the past couple of years is a big clue on when the M8 will go on sale, then we can safely expect the handset to hit the shelves sometime in Q2 2014. Whether or not the back panel depicted above is the real deal remains to be seen, but given the similarities in design, I'd say that it's safer to remain skeptical at this point.
