As some of you already know, Sony has recently announced the Sony Xperia Z1 f in Japan, where one of the biggest carrier – NTT DoCoMo- is offering the gadget. Unfortunately, Sony hasn't released the Z1 f outside of Japan yet, but hopefully that will change sooner rather than later.

Initially, the Xperia Z1 f was known as the "Xperia Z1 Mini", due to its compact nature. After the device has landed in Japan under the "Z1 f" moniker, gadget enthusiasts have assumed that the "Mini" nametag is reserved for the international market. That, however, might not be the case at all.

According to recent bits of information shared by the reliable source "@evleaks", the Z1 f will hit the global market under the name "Xperia Z1S". This information has been accompanied by a render of the device (seen above).

Although the launch date of the Z1S on the international market is unknown, the date on the screen of the device depicted in the above image hints that the gadget might be unveiled or released on a global scale on January 14 2014. These things aren't always accurate though, so hopefully the Z1S / Z1 f / Z1 Mini or whatever its name will be outside of Japan, will also hit the western markets by the end of 2013.

As far as what you can expect from the handset in terms of specs, the device features a 4.3 inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280, a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage expandable by up to an additional 64 GB through a microSD card. On the back panel resides a 20.7 Exmor RS main camera, complemented by a front-facing 2 MP sensor. The gadget is being powered by a 2,300 mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

In essence, the Z1 Mini / Z1S / Z1 f is a miniature Xperia Z1, boasting the same top-tier hardware specifications, all bundled up in a small package, which makes the device even more interesting.

Would anyone be interested in purchasing the Z1 f outside of Japan?
