Yeah you are right that lunch will probably turn out to be crap. But there are some free services for landline numbers. Plus I usualy always first put the number in Google search before trying anything else. A lot of people leave their cell numbers in profiles on facebook or myspace and also in resumes online =)

Recent news also confirmed that there are no plans to create a public cell phone directory... and all these reverse cell lookup services though do have some records can also contain some false info so always double check.

I tried link shown in one of the responses as free, and not free. Only thing it does is give a push-pin representation on a small scale map, and even that not accurate.

If you are looking for information from a cell phone number, then you most likely will not find it for free. I have conducted reverse phone lookups using http//reversecellphonedirectory.net in the past and have been satisfied with the results.

This is correct, unfortunately. Every time I have looked up the owner of a phone, I have always had to pay when the call was came from a mobile phone number. I never understood why that was necessary until just recently.

It was explained to me, like this: cell phone owner data is considered private record, therefore that info has to be put together by third party business, who buys that data individually from the different mobile carriers.

Obviously this info takes an investment of time and money to ensure that the info stays current. A tip would be to never pay for phone owner data that is for a land-line phone number, as that can normally be acquired through a free resource.
