Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- If necessary, disable Adaptive brightness
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to reduce screen luminosity
- To change the timeout duration, first go back to Display and tap Sleep
- Select a lower value, like 15 seconds
Disable Connectivity Features When Unused:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when they are not in use, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the tiles associated with Wi-Fi, Location, and Bluetooth to disable these features
- For more GPS options, first go to Settings
- Next, tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap to disable Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
Use 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery life and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks. To do this:
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Third party applications can perform regular background tasks, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are unused. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and swipe to Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Force stop / Disable to turn off the app
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall > OK
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your applications and / or accounts to reduce the amount of data being synced, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type and clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the phone up to date at all times. To check for new software updates:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and, if applicable, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates. NOTE: this process will require a reboot
