Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and turn on “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left edge of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. Turn “Automatic brightness” ON or OFF
  6. For timeout settings, tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning off connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, drag the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” tiles to turn the features OFF
  3. Next open “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” (GPS)
  5. Then tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving” for GPS
  6. To disable Hotspot, go back to “Settings”
  7. Then tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  8. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by limiting connectivity to 2G networks temporarily.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account
  4. Change the account’s sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or uninstalling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To turn the app off, tap “Force stop”
  6. To remove an app from the device, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Another way to remove an app is to open the apps drawer, and dragging > dropping the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and verify if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
