Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when they are not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location tiles to disable these features
- For GPS options, first go to Settings
- Go to Location and tap Mode > Battery saving
- To turn OFF Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Disable Tethering & Mobile hotspot
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Turn 2G ON
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Disable Adaptive brightness if necessary
- Tap Brightness level and drag the slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Return to Display and tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value, such as 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes. Thus, they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Access Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Force stop / Disable to disable the app
- To remove the application, tap Uninstall > OK to confirm
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts / apps sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account to change its sync settings
- Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new software updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the available update(s). NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so make sure you save any unsaved work before proceeding
