I signed up for PureTalk several months ago, and have been quite pleased with the service. However, I am using it with and unlocked iPhone 3G, which is not compatible with their data plan. They tell me I can oder any of the phones from their site for the data plan, but they are all pretty old or clunky. Their tech support says to buy their phone, but I'm hoping there's another answer.
I would like to get an android phone and use it with their data plan, which requires access to settings as described below. Does anyone know if these settings are commonly available on Android phones, and/or whether a specific Android phone\version might be required to get these settings? Thank you.

Re: Puretalk Data Plan and Android phone
The iPhone 3G (and other iPhones) should be compatible with their data plans. You just need to change the network APN settings as you detailed above.
To change APN settings directly on your iPhone:
support apple com/kb/HT2283
Or if needed use the iPhone Configuration Utility:
support apple com/kb/HT4839
Pure TalkUSA APN settings:

Re: Puretalk Data Plan and Android phone
Here's the low down:
- AT&T phones - you do NOT need to unlock it first.
- T-mobile phones - you DO need to unlock it first (same for phones from other GSM networks)
- Verizon/Sprint phones - not compatible with Pure Talks network, or any other prepaid GSM network... they use CDMA wireless technology.
iPhone 4 and later are 'world' phones that support GSM and CDMA, so in theory a Verizon or Sprint phone could be unlocked and work on Pure Talk or ATT or any GSM network. However... apparently when they 'unlock' your phone they still block it from connecting to other US networks. So it would work overseas but not on Pure Talk, ATT, t-mobile etc etc.
