WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all of your personal data stored on the internal memory will be deleted, including ringtones, media files, downloaded content, apps, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, content on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can check this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. If necessary, tap “Menu” and switch to “List View”
  3. Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
  4. Enable or disable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  5. Tap “Backup account” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen steps to add a Google backup account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset” and review the WARNING message
  7. Optionally, choose to “Erase SD card” too. (WARNING! This will remove ALL the data on the SD card).
  8. Tap “Reset Phone” > “Next”
  9. Tap “Delete all” > “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If you are unable to reset your phone via Settings using the method above, you can try resetting the phone from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses. To do this:

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. At the “LG” logo, quickly release and re-hold “Power” (keep “Volume down” pressed)
  4. When prompted with “Factory data reset”, use “Volume Down” to navigate to, and highlight “Yes”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “Erase all user data and restore default settings” prompt, highlight “Yes”
  7. Press “Power” and wait for the device to reset and restart

Check for Firmware Updates:

NOTE: After a fresh factory reset, it’s recommended to check if newer software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open the “Settings” menu
  2. If necessary, tap “Menu” and switch to “List view”
  3. Scroll down to “Phone Management” and tap “About phone”
  4. Tap “Software info”
  5. Check the software version and if a new update is available. Follow the on-screen steps accordingly
