WARNING! By factory resetting your device, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files, contacts, ringtones, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before master resetting your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. If necessary, tap “Menu” and switch to “List view”
  4. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  5. Optionally, check the “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore” boxes
  6. If necessary, tap “Backup account” and sign in with, or create a Google account
  7. Tap “Factory data reset”
  8. Optionally, select to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! This will delete all data on the SD card
  9. Tap “Reset Phone” > “Next”
  10. Tap “Delete all” to confirm
  11. Tap “OK”

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesn’t let you reset it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, release and quickly re-hold “Power”
  4. At the “Factory data reset” prompt, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Erase all user data and restore default settings”
  7. Press “Power” to confirm
  8. Highlight “Yes” using “Volume down” and press “Power” again

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check for new software updates. To do this:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. If necessary, tap “Menu” and switch to “List view”
  4. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  5. In case a new update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it (NOTE: This process may require a reboot)
