WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files, ringtones, contacts, downloaded content, applications etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the factory reset. To learn how to back up data on the internal memory before the reset, visit this thread. For instructions on how to restore data, visit this link.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Swipe the “Notification” bar down on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Access the “General” tab
  4. Tap “Backup & reset” and clear or check the boxes associated with “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
  5. Tap “Backup account”
  6. If needed, follow the on-screen steps to sign in with, or create a Google backup account
  7. Tap “Factory data reset”
  8. When prompted to “Erase SD Card”, choose whether to do it or not. WARNING! If you enable this option, all data on the SD card will be removed
  9. When ready, tap “Reset Phone”
  10. Tap “Next” > “Delete all”
  11. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or doesn’t work as intended and you are unable to reset it via Settings, you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu instead. The menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Turn off the phone if needed
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. At the “LG” logo, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. At the “Factory data reset” screen, release all buttons
  5. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the Recovery menu and highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. When prompted to “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, use “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and reset the device

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Access the “General” tab
  4. Scroll to, and tap “About phone”
  5. Tap “Software info”
  6. Check if a new update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install any available updates. NOTE: This process will require a reboot
