Back Up Applications:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and swipe to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, account data, and settings to Google’s servers
  5. To restore data automatically upon reinstalling backed up applications, tap “Automatic restore”

NOTE: App data will be restored automatically once you sign in with your Google account for the first time on the phone, or after a fresh master reset.

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Tap “Apps”
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select the account you want to store (sync) your contacts to
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Sync now”

NOTE: Contacts will be restored automatically the first time you login with your Google account or after a fresh factory reset.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Moto X Play to your PC via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and if necessary, enable “Media sync (MTP)”
  3. From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to browse the phone’s folders
  4. Locate your media files, copy them, and transfer them in the desired backup location on your computer
  5. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect it

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Moto X Play to your computer through USB
  2. Make sure “Media Sync (MTP)” is enabled
  3. From the AutoPlay window, select to browse the phone’s folders
  4. Launch a second Windows Explorer window and locate the media files backed up on your computer
  5. Copy the files and transfer them back to the phone memory
  6. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect it from the USB connector
