Backing Up Your App Data:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Open the "Settings" menu
  3. Scroll to "User and Backup", and tap "Backup and reset"
  4. If necessary, sign in with your Google account. If you need to add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
  5. If required, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Backing Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Open the "Contacts" application
  2. Tap "Settings" and select "Merge accounts"
  3. Tap "Google" or "Samsung account"
  4. To merge the contacts, tap "OK"

Backing Up Contacts using the SD Card:

  1. Ensure that the SD card is installed on the Young 2
  2. From the home screen, tap "Apps" > "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Contacts"
  4. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  5. Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
  6. For future use, make sure you write down the backup file's name
  7. Tap "OK" to confirm

Backing Up Media Files

Backing Up Media Files Using the Phone's Storage:

  1. Make sure the SD card is installed on your device
  2. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  3. Launch "My Files"
  4. Scroll to "Local storage" and then tap "Device storage"
  5. Press "Menu" and tap "Select"
  6. Locate the files and folders you wish to back up. NOTE: generally speaking, files of interest are found in the "DCIM", "Ringtones", "Downloads" folders etc.
  7. Mark the check boxes next to the files you wish to back up
  8. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy" > "SD card"
  9. Navigate to where you wish to back up the files, and tap "Paste here"

Backing Up Media Files Using a Windows PC:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy Young 2 and your computer
  2. Drag the "Status" bar down from the home screen
  3. Tap "Connected as a media device"
  4. Mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  5. Click "Open device to view files", from the AutoPlay window that should pop-up on the computer
  6. Navigate to where the media files are stored on your smartphone
  7. Copy the files you wish to back up, and paste them on the computer's hard drive

Backing Up Media Files using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: You should skip the first 3 steps if you've already installed Samsung Kies on your Mac

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Navigate to Kies
  3. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  4. Once Kies has been installed, connect the Young 2 to the Mac via USB
  5. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  6. Mark the check box next to "Media device (MTP)"
  7. On the Mac, launch Samsung Kies
  8. Access the "Back up / Restore" tab and then click the "Backup" tab
  9. Mark the "Photo" and "Music" check boxes, or click "Select all items"
  10. After selecting the desired files, click "Backup"
  11. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac
