Enabling Power Saving Mode:

  1. While on the home screen tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "System"
  3. Tap "Power saving" > "Power saving mode"
  4. Set the power saving mode switch to "ON"
  5. Optionally, change the way the mode works by enabling / disabling features like "Restrict performance", "Greyscale mode" etc.

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "System"
  3. Tap "Power saving" > "Ultra Power saving mode"
  4. Tap the "Ultra Power saving mode" switch and set it to "ON"
  5. Choose the desired settings for the Ultra power saving mode and the "Phone", "Messages", "Internet" app etc.
  6. To add more apps that will be affected by this mode, tap "+"

Decreasing the Screen Brightness and Adjusting Timeout Duration:

  1. From any home screen tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Quick Settings"
  3. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  4. Clear the "Automatic brightness" check box if necessary
  5. Tap and drag the slider to the left in order to lower the screen brightness
  6. Tap "OK" at the desired level
  7. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS:

NOTE: A smartphone's connectivity features can be very demanding on the battery, so it's recommended that you disable these features whenever they are not in use. To do so:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Network Connections"
  4. Tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  5. Tap the "Mobile Hotspot" switch and set it to "Off"
  6. Return to the home screen and drag the "Status" bar down
  7. Tap the "Wi-Fi", "Location" and "Bluetooth" tiles to turn these settings off (a grayed-out switch means the feature is turned off)

Changing Sync Settings for Apps:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Accounts"
  4. Access the "Accounts" tab and select an account type, like "Google"
  5. Adjust the available sync settings as desired
  6. For more sync settings, tap your "email address" or "user name" at the top of the screen

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press "Menu"
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Even though you might not use a certain third party app, it can still affect your phone's battery life assuming that the respective app runs processes in the background. As such, it's recommended that you disable or remove unused 3rd party apps:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Applications" and then tap "Application manager"
  4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" tab
  5. Select an app and tap "Disable"
  6. To completely remove an app, tap "Uninstall"

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. From any home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Open "Settings" and swipe to "Network connections"
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks"
  4. Tap "Network mode"
  5. To restrict the connection to 2G only, tap "GSM only"
  6. To return to 4G LTE, tap "LTE / WCDMA / GSM (auto connect)" or "WCDMA / GSM (auto connect)"

Keeping Your Smartphone Up to Date:

NOTE: Smartphone manufacturers and carriers sometimes release software updates that can improve your phone's battery performance. As such, it's recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date. To check for updates:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Swipe to "System" and tap "About device"
  3. Tap "Software update" and follow any additional prompts that may follow

NOTE: if no update is available, then performing the steps above will have no effect on your phone's battery performance
