Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
I have att and have had NO problem making and using ringtons for my g/f's phone. I used the instructions that were first posted
I opened the mp3 in sony sound forge and cut it down to 30 sec
saved to a 128 bitrate mp3 format
used the drm and set it up as posted by dalton
bluetoothed it over to the phone and it worked.

Does the mp3 have to be cut down to 30 secs?

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
If you want. For me, I used full songs but that was just a test. But just find a program that will cut it down to 30 seconds or less. For example, I use Virtual DJ to mix my music. I bought this years ago so look it up.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
if you use the method i posted than no song dont have to be cut down, the method i posted is basically lowering the bitrate which lowers file size, wont sound CD quality but if you want a whole song than best way to do. Or just cut it down to 30 seconds which is what i do.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
I've put a few files into the folder as ring tones.. how could I go about deleting them? When I try to do so, an error message comes up saying "Could not delete file or folder. The destination path could not be found," and if I unplug then connect the USB cable and go back to the folder, the file isn't there anymore. I tried deleting the ringtone on the phone itself as well to no avail.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
Hi there. I must be a moron of epic proportions. I've followed your directions, to the letter, have even had to uninstall and reinstall. I'm getting another message similar to another member, couldn't make the file in the original file (don't have the screen up, so I can't remember word for word), but I've now been at this for almost 2 hrs and I'm ready to pull my hair out. You've obviously been successful with this method, so I'm not doubting you, but OMG, PM me or something, or did you do that YOUTUBE thing for idiots like me?
So tired, so tired
I'm usually really good at this stuff, maybe I'm getting too old...
I chose uncheck for placing rights in separate folder and left the output alone, figuring if I went about changing stuff I'd only bugger it up, but it says it cant put in the original file still. I'm unable to create DMR altogether
I'm getting mad!!!
I'm also with Rogers, only had the phone 2 days so far haha
Help?

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
If you convert your .mp3 to .wma they work fine.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
Get out! Really? I'll try that tonight. I've heard mention of this sony sound forge or wotever but haven't looked that up yet. Maybe I should see what that's all about too. Thanks for the tip. I have a converter that I used to use with some other phones and hopefully it will work here too.
Cheers and thanks,
Dina

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
The file size still needs to be under 600 kb, so the file might need to be reduced, but after that the .wma works like a charm.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
So I have a question then, I downloaded from Rogers Music Store a song but cant use it as a ring tone. Is that the MP3 one that I need to download from them? Cause I don't mind downloading a couple from Rogers as long as I can use it as a ringtone. Or are you all talking about the ring tones in general that are the MP3's for the Sony. I just got the phone and that is the biggest disappointment about it.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i
I would like to say thanks for sharing your way of setting an mp3 as a ringtone. I got this phone thinking that you can set mp3s as ringtones without going through these steps. After I found out I couldn't do it without your help, I wanted to throw away this phone.
