Downloading and Installing the Sony PC Companion Tool:

  1. Using your computer's Internet browser, visit Download for PC - Sony Smartphones (US)
  2. Click "Download PC Companion"
  3. Once the file is downloaded, open it and follow the on-screen instructions in order to complete the installation process

Using Sony PC Companion to Back Up Data on a Computer:

  1. After installing the PC Companion tool on your computer, open the application
  2. Establish a connection between your smartphone and your PC using the USB cable
  3. Scroll to "Backup & Restore" and click the "Start" button. NOTE: if this is the first time using this feature, it will take a while for the system to commence "Backup and Restore"
  4. Click "Backup"
  5. Mark the check boxes associated with the content that you wish to back up and click "Next"
  6. Wait until the Sony PC Companion tool retrieves the necessary file system information
  7. Type in a name for the backup file and click "Next"
  8. Wait for the Companion tool to create the backup, and click "OK"

NOTE: assuming that you receive an error message next to a recommended troubleshooting step, then that means that not all of the selected data has been backed up

Using Sony PC Companion to Restore Data from a Backup File:

  1. Launch the Sony PC Companion tool on your computer
  2. Use the USB cable to connect your Xperia E1 to your computer
  3. Click the "Start" button located underneath "Backup & Restore". NOTE: on first use, it can take a while for the system to commence "Backup and Restore"
  4. Choose the desired backup file and click "Restore"
  5. Mark the content that you want to restore, and click "Next"
  6. Once the Sony PC Companion tool retrieves the information on the phone file system, click "Next" to begin the restore process
  7. Wait for the process to commence, follow the on-screen instructions and click "OK"
  8. Lastly, click "OK" when the process has finished

NOTE: if not all the selected files have been restored, you will receive an error message containing the recommended troubleshooting step

Using the Sony PC Companion Tool to Reload / Reinstall Device Software:

  1. Open the PC Companion tool on your computer
  2. Connect your smartphone to your PC via USB
  3. Scroll to "Support Zone" and click "Start". NOTE: if this is the first time using this feature, it will take a while before "Support Zone" is ready
  4. Underneath "Phone / Tablet Software Update", click the "Start" button
  5. Click "repair my phone / tablet"
  6. Review the on-screen information and click "Next"
  7. On the next screen, click "Continue"
  8. Lastly, mark the check box and click "Next"
  9. Wait for the Companion tool to download and install the latest software on your Xperia E1

NOTE: Depending on the speed of your Internet and multiple other factors, it can take up to or more than 30 minutes for the software to be downloaded and installed on your device
