Data Backup

Backing up Applications:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Locate and tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
  4. Mark the "Backup my data" check box
  5. Tap "Backup account" and select an account. NOTE: if the account is missing, you can tap "Add account" and follow the on-screen instructions to add it

Backing Up Contacts on the SIM Card:

  1. Tap the "Phone" icon while on the home screen
  2. Tap the "Contacts" icon
  3. Touch the "Menu" icon located in the lower-right corner
  4. Tap "Back up contacts" > "SIM card"
  5. Select the contacts that you wish to back up, or tap "Mark All"
  6. Tap "Back up"
  7. If prompted, select either "Add contacts" or "Replace all contacts"
  8. Tap "OK" if necessary

Backing Up Contacts to the SD Card:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Phone"
  2. Tap "Contacts"
  3. Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Back up contacts"
  4. Tap "SD card" > "OK"

Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. While on the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Storage"
  3. Tap "Transfer data to SD card"

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Sony Xperia M2 and your computer
  2. On the PC, in the AutoPlay window, select to browse the device's files and folders
  3. Open the "Internal storage" folder
  4. Navigate to where the desired media files are stored
  5. Copy the files, and paste them in the desired backup location on your PC's hard drive
  6. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray
  7. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  8. You can now disconnect your smartphone

Restoring Data

Restoring Applications:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
  4. Tap "Backup account" and choose an account. NOTE: you can add an account by tapping "Add account" and following the on-screen prompts
  5. Mark the "Automatic restore" check box

Restoring Contacts from the SIM card:

  1. Tap the "Phone" icon while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Contacts" and touch the "Menu" icon located in the lower-right corner
  3. Tap "Import contacts" and choose to import from the SIM card
  4. Select the contacts that you wish to import, or tap "Import all"

Restoring Contacts from the SD Card:

  1. Open the "Phone" application
  2. Tap the "Contacts" icon located in the top-left area
  3. Touch the "Menu" icon and select "Import contacts"
  4. Tap "SD card"
  5. Choose the desired vCard file and tap "OK"

Restoring Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a connection between your smartphone and PC via USB
  2. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to browse the phone's files and folders
  3. Open the "Internal Storage" folder
  4. Launch a new Windows Explorer window and navigate to where the media files are backed up on your computer
  5. Copy the desired files, and paste them in the appropriate folder, within the "Internal storage" directory of your phone
  6. After the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
  7. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  8. Disconnect your smartphone from the computer
