Data Backup
Backing up Applications:
- While viewing the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
- Locate and tap "Settings"
- Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
- Mark the "Backup my data" check box
- Tap "Backup account" and select an account. NOTE: if the account is missing, you can tap "Add account" and follow the on-screen instructions to add it
Backing Up Contacts on the SIM Card:
- Tap the "Phone" icon while on the home screen
- Tap the "Contacts" icon
- Touch the "Menu" icon located in the lower-right corner
- Tap "Back up contacts" > "SIM card"
- Select the contacts that you wish to back up, or tap "Mark All"
- Tap "Back up"
- If prompted, select either "Add contacts" or "Replace all contacts"
- Tap "OK" if necessary
Backing Up Contacts to the SD Card:
- From the home screen, tap "Phone"
- Tap "Contacts"
- Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Back up contacts"
- Tap "SD card" > "OK"
Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- While on the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
- Tap "Settings" > "Storage"
- Tap "Transfer data to SD card"
Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the Sony Xperia M2 and your computer
- On the PC, in the AutoPlay window, select to browse the device's files and folders
- Open the "Internal storage" folder
- Navigate to where the desired media files are stored
- Copy the files, and paste them in the desired backup location on your PC's hard drive
- Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray
- Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
- You can now disconnect your smartphone
Restoring Data
Restoring Applications:
- From the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
- Go to "Settings"
- Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
- Tap "Backup account" and choose an account. NOTE: you can add an account by tapping "Add account" and following the on-screen prompts
- Mark the "Automatic restore" check box
Restoring Contacts from the SIM card:
- Tap the "Phone" icon while on a home screen
- Tap "Contacts" and touch the "Menu" icon located in the lower-right corner
- Tap "Import contacts" and choose to import from the SIM card
- Select the contacts that you wish to import, or tap "Import all"
Restoring Contacts from the SD Card:
- Open the "Phone" application
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located in the top-left area
- Touch the "Menu" icon and select "Import contacts"
- Tap "SD card"
- Choose the desired vCard file and tap "OK"
Restoring Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Establish a connection between your smartphone and PC via USB
- In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to browse the phone's files and folders
- Open the "Internal Storage" folder
- Launch a new Windows Explorer window and navigate to where the media files are backed up on your computer
- Copy the desired files, and paste them in the appropriate folder, within the "Internal storage" directory of your phone
- After the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
- Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
- Disconnect your smartphone from the computer
