Viewing the Amount of Free SD Card Storage:

  1. Tap the "Applications" icon while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Storage" out of "Device"
  4. The available memory value is displayed under "SD card"

Formatting the SD Card:

WARNING! Resetting (formatting) the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on the card. This includes your pictures, custom ringtones / audio files, contacts, downloaded content etc. If necessary, create backups of the data before proceeding with the format! To format the SD card:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to "Device" and then tap "Storage"
  4. Under "SD card", tap "Erase SD card"
  5. Tap "Erase SD card" again to confirm

Opening or Deleting Files from the SD Card Using the Phone:

  1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "File Commander"
  3. To skip the registration process, tap "Register later". Otherwise, tap "Register now" and then follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process. NOTE: registering is not mandatory.
  4. Perform one of the following:
    • To open a file on the SD card, navigate to it and tap it
    • To delete files:
    • Navigate to where the desired files are stored
    • Tap and hold a file that you wish to remove
    • Tap "Delete" and touch "OK" to confirm

Opening and / or Deleting Files on the SD Card via a Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect the Sony Xperia Z2A to your computer
  2. From the AutoPlay window that should pop-up on your computer, click to browse the phone's files and folders
  3. Navigate to the SD card storage and locate the files that you wish to open or delete
  4. To open a file, double-click it
  5. To delete a file, click it and press the "Delete" button on the PC's keyboard (or right-click > delete)
  6. After the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone by first clicking the "Mass Storage Device" located in the PC's system tray area

Transferring Files Between the SD Card and Internal Storage:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "File Commander" and navigate to the desired file(s)
  3. Mark the check boxes next to the files that you want to transfer
  4. Tap "Copy" and navigate to the location where you wish to transfer the files
  5. Once there, tap "Edit" > "Paste"

Transferring Files Between the SD Card and a Computer:

  1. Connect the Sony Xperia Z2A to your computer using the USB cable
  2. From the AutoPlay window on your computer, click to browse the phone's files and folder
  3. Locate the desired files stored on the external storage (SD card)
  4. Copy the desired files and then navigate to the desired location on your computer
  5. Paste the files there, or search for files stored on the PC in order to transfer them to the SD card
  6. After you are done transferring files between the two devices, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray
  7. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" and then tap "OK"
  8. It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from the computer

Changing the Default Memory Storage Location:

NOTE: your smartphone is set by default to store most of the data it receives on the internal storage. However, you can set various applications to store the data on the SD card instead, as exemplified below with the "Camera" app:

  1. Launch the "Camera" application
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Swipe to and then select "Data storage"
  4. Tap "SD Card" and the camera app will store future data on the external memory
