Inserting / Removing the SD Card:
- Turn off the smartphone
- Remove the memory card cover
- Insert the memory card as seen below
- Replace the cover and reboot your phone
- To remove an SD card, press "Menu" and go to "Settings" > "Storage" and tap "Unmount SD card"
- Turn off the smartphone, remove the SD card cover and press against the memory card's edge to release it
View the Amount of SD Card Space:
- Tap "Applications" while on the home screen
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "Device" and tap "Storage"
- The "Available" value is shown under "SD Card"
Set the Default Memory Storage Location for the Camera App:
NOTE: By default the "Camera" app (and other pre-loaded applications) store data on the phone's internal memory. You can change this option from each app's settings menu. For the Camera app:
- Tap the "Camera" icon while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" and go to "Data storage"
- Select "SD card" instead of "Internal storage"
Formatting the SD Card:
WARNING! Formatting the SD card will delete all data stored on it, including apps, multimedia files etc. Before proceeding, create backups if necessary. To format the SD Card:
- Tap the "Applications" icon from the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Device"
- Tap "Storage"
- Under "SD card", tap "Erase SD Card"
- Tap "Erase SD Card" again to confirm
- If necessary, follow any additional prompts to complete the process
Opening or Deleting Files
Opening or Deleting Files Using Your Smartphone:
- Open the apps drawer and launch "File Commander"
- To skip the registration process if prompted, tap "Register Later". Otherwise, tap "Register now" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the registration
- Next up, select the folder representing the memory card
- To open files, navigate to and tap them
- To delete files:
- 1 Navigate to the desired files
- Tap and hold the name of a file you wish to remove
- Tap "Delete" and press "OK" to confirm
Opening or Deleting Files Using a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Sony Xperia Z3 to your computer via USB
- From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to browse the phone's files and folders
- Navigate to the desired files stored on the SD Card
- Double-click to open a file
- To delete a file, select it and press "Delete" on the keyboard
- After the process is done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the PC
Transferring Files
Transfer Files From the Internal Storage to the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" on the home screen
- Launch "File Commander"
- Navigate to the files you want to transfer
- Mark the boxes associated with the desired items
- Select "Copy" and navigate to the desired location on the SD Card
- Tap "Edit" > "Paste"
Transferring Files Between a Windows PC and SD Card:
- Connect your Sony Xperia Z3 to a Windows computer via USB
- Once connected, select to browse the phone's files from the AutoPlay window on the PC
- Navigate to the desired files stored on the SD card, or the location where you wish to copy files from the computer
- In a second Windows Explorer window, go to the items you wish to transfer from your computer, or the location where the files from the SD card should be transferred
- Copy the files from - to the computer as you desire
- When done, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray
- Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
- You can now safely disconnect your smartphone from the PC
