Using iTunes:

NOTE: With iTunes installed on a computer connected to the Internet, you can sync the contacts on your iPhone with your Google account. Then you can resync the contacts with the Xperia M5.

  1. Open iTunes on the computer
  2. Connect the iPhone to your PC via USB
  3. In iTunes, click the iPhone to access the summary page
  4. Go to the “Info” tab
  5. Mark the check box associated with “Sync Contacts With”
  6. From the drop-down menu, click “Google Contacts”
  7. Sign in with your Google account, or click “Configure” and select an existing account if applicable
  8. Click “Apply” to sync the contacts
  9. Once done, switch to the Xperia M5 and register the same Google account on it. Allow the account to sync contacts with your phone

Using iCloud:

NOTE: If you’ve used the iCloud backup service on your iPhone before, you can access your iCloud account on a computer connected to the Internet, and export the contacts in VCF format for Android use.

  1. Open the Internet browser on your computer
  2. Visit https://www.icloud.com/
  3. Sign in with your iCloud account and click “Contacts”
  4. Select the contacts you want to export
  5. Click “Settings” > “Export vCard”
  6. Once the file is downloaded on the computer, import it to “Google Contacts”
  7. Alternatively, skip the step above and instead: connect the Xperia M5 to your computer via USB and transfer the file to its storage. Then use the contacts application and the “Import” function to add the contacts to your phonebook

Using “My Contacts Backup”:

NOTE: My Contacts Backup is an iOS app that can be used to transfer contacts via email without needing access to a computer.

  1. Open the App Store and install “My Contacts Backup” on your iPhone
  2. Launch the app and tap “Backup”
  3. Once the backup file containing your contacts is created, tap “Email”
  4. Compose a new email with the vCard file attached to it
  5. Send the email to your own address
  6. Switch to the Xperia M5 and open the email
  7. Download the attached file and import it using the contacts app

Using “Send Anywhere”:

NOTE: Another third party app you can use to transfer contacts without needing a computer is “Send Anywhere” (iOS and Android). It uses a P2P connection to transfer contacts.

  1. Visit the App Store and install “Send Anywhere” on your iPhone
  2. Install the same app on the Xperia M5 via the Google Play Store
  3. Open the app on both handsets
  4. On the iPhone, tap “Send” > “Contacts”
  5. Select the contacts to share and tap “Send”
  6. Lastly, choose a transfer method. (example: you can tap “Generate QR Code” on the iPhone and scan the resulting code with the M5’s camera to begin the transfer. Or you can tap “Receive” on the Sony smartphone and manually enter the transfer code from the iPhone)
