Back Up App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
  4. Enable “Backup my data”
  5. If necessary, tap “Backup account” and select or sign in to the account you want to use for the backup

Restore App Data:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
  3. Tap “Backup account” and select the account containing the backup
  4. Tap to enable “Automatic restore”

Enable Automatic Backup:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Backup & Restore”
  3. Tap the “Automatic backup” slider to enable the feature
  4. To select the desired backup frequency, backup location and the type of data you want to be automatically backed up, tap “Automatic backup” again
  5. When done, tap “Back” to save the settings

To Back Up Content Manually:

  1. Tap “Apps” and open “Backup & restore”
  2. Tap “Manual backup” and select a backup location
  3. Tap the data type you want to back up, such as “Contacts”, “Conversations” etc.
  4. Tap “Backup” > “Finish”

Restore Data Manually:

  1. Open “Backup & Restore”
  2. Tap “Restore data”
  3. Select the location of the backup file and choose the type of data you want to restore
  4. Tap “Restore data” > “Finish”

Back Up Data Using PC Companion (PC) or Sony Bridge (Mac):

  1. Install “PC Companion” or “Sony Bridge” on your PC or Mac respectively
  2. Connect the Xperia M5 to your computer via USB
  3. Open PC Companion or Sony Bridge
  4. In the application, tap “Start” to backup & restore app
  5. Tap “Backup” and follow the on-screen instructions

Restore Data Using a PC or Mac:

  1. Ensure PC Companion or Sony Bridge is installed on the PC or Mac respectively
  2. Connect the Xperia M5 to your computer using the USB cable
  3. Open the PC Companion or Sony Bridge app
  4. Click “Start”
  5. Select the desired backup file and tap “Restore”
  6. Follow the on-screen steps to complete the process

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Xperia M5 to your computer via USB
  2. Open an Explorer window on the computer and navigate to the phone storage
  3. Locate and copy the desired media files on the phone
  4. Navigate to the desired backup location on the computer, and paste the media files
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the phone from the computer

To Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the M5 to the PC via USB
  2. Locate the media files on the computer and transfer them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
  3. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device
