WARNING! Factory resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data located on the phone’s internal storage. This includes ringtones, downloaded content, media files, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you reset the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Back up & reset”
  4. Optionally, disable “Automatic restore”
  5. Under “Personal data”, tap “Factory data reset"
  6. Tap “Reset phone” and if necessary, enter your PIN / password / pattern then tap “Continue”
  7. Tap “Erase everything” to confirm

Reset via Dialer:

NOTE: Assuming that the method above fails, you can try resetting the phone using the default dialer.

  1. Tap “Phone” on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Dialer” icon
  3. Type *#*#7378423#*#*
  4. A pop-up menu should appear. From there, tap “Customization settings”
  5. Tap “Reset customization”
  6. When informed that “data will be cleared and factory data reset will perform”, tap “Reset customization and reboot”

Reinstall the OS using PC Companion:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the PC and visit https://support.sonymobile.com/globa.../pc-companion/
  2. Download and install PC Companion on the PC
  3. Once installed, launch “PC Companion”
  4. Under “Support Zone”, click “Start”
  5. Under “Phone / Tablet Software Update”, click “Start”
  6. Connect the Xperia Z5 Compact to your PC via USB
  7. Click “Repair my phone / tablet” in PC Companion
  8. If necessary, follow any on-screen steps that may come up next

Reinstall the OS via Sony Bridge (Mac):

  1. Launch the Internet explorer on the Mac
  2. Visit https://support.sonymobile.com/globa...ridge-for-mac/
  3. Download and install Sony Bridge on the Mac
  4. Connect the Xperia phone to your Mac via USB
  5. Open Sony Bridge and click “Xperia” > “Repair” > “Xperia device”
  6. Click “Continue” and follow the on-screen prompts if necessary
