Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch the apps drawer and go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and, optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select a lower value
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run (depending on how many third party apps sync data on your phone)
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account and turn off the desired (available) sync options
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively used. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you could improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Make sure All Apps is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
- Tap the desired app and tap Force Stop to turn off the app
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: To quickly uninstall an app, alternatively you can open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the app shortcut on top of the Uninstall area.
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth you might improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location tiles to disable these features
- For more GPS options, access Settings
- Tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot
- Tap the switch to disable this feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery life and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile Networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: this will require at least one reboot
