Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and turn on “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” tiles to disable these features
  3. To access more GPS options, first go to “Settings”
  4. Then, tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To turn off Hotspot, go back to “Settings”
  6. Then, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and tap the switch to turn off the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile Networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Access “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and enable or disable “Adaptive brightness” as desired
  5. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party applications can perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively used. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen
  4. Tap the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
  5. To remove the app from the device, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: An alternative way to uninstall an app is to open the apps drawer, drag the desired app’s shortcut and drop it over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync options

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to, and tap “About phone”
  3. Go to “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: this will require at least one reboot
