My wife and I have been VM users for a number of years. We both started using the Nokia Shorty.
A few weeks ago my Shorty died so I upgraded to an Android LG Optimus V which has been working great for me. I like to do some internet stuff so it meets my needs.
A few days ago my wife started having problems with her phone but didn't need to do much in the way of texting or web access. I got her a Kyocera S2300.
Her phone has been activated yet she is unable to make or receive calls while I have no trouble. Wouldn't they both be accessing the same cell tower from here at home?
What logically explains why hers will not work while mine does?
We live in the village of Saugerties NY. Some nearby areas were hard hit by the recent hurricane. Could this have something to do with it?
I'm at a loss, clearly.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Does there seem to be a difference is you are both in a different location connecting to a different tower? It could just be the difference between the antennas on the phones.
I'm not sure if *228 works for updating the towers on the phone like it does with Verizon. Give it a try.

Re: why does mine work and hers doesn't
I don't think that the antennas on the phone are the answer only since in testing out our respective phones we have sat in the same room. She tries to call my cell and can't connect. I call her cell phone number and it goes straight to voicemail.
I am wondering whether my Optimus V being an android phone might be using a different network than her Kyocera S2300 or whether my phone is more adept at roaming.
It's frustrating. I don't want to jump the gun and return the phone to where I bought it. But she is anxious to have a phone that works here at home.
Thanks for the input though.

hrm, besides the S2300 Torino having slower data (CDMA2000 vs the Optimus V's 1xEV-DO rev.A) the I'm seeing that the operate on the same CDMA voice frequencies. In other words, they both make calls on the same frequencies and technically shouldn't be different.

Re: why does mine work and hers doesn't
Here's a whole lot more to add to the confusion.
I took a drive around the neighborhood while carrying my wife's problematic Kyocera S2300 and my Optimus V.
I drove to a shopping plaza two miles from my home and using her phone I called to my home landline: fine, good clear connection. Tried to connect from the same phone to my cell phone: call would not go through.
So I drove back towards my house and stopped on a side street a mile from my house. Called the home landline: again fine.
Then headed to the supermarket which is about a mile west of my house. Called house: didn't connect, tried again, good connection. Tried to call my cellphone and my son's cell and neither of those calls went through.
Finally drove home and sitting in the driveway tried once again to call the house landline: call would not go through.
So it would seem that
(1) my house is in some kind of dead spot which doesn't allow the Kyocera phone to call out or receive calls. (My Optimus V has none of these problems)
(2) the Kyocera phone has been unable thus far to make a connection to another cell phone
And on the two occasions when I used my android phone to call her cell phone the call went straight to voice mail. Almost immediately after one of the calls her phone beeped indicating a "new voicemail message."
Our area was moderately hit and affected by the hurricane. I wonder if all these goofy tendencies will be the same a week or two from now. I'm leaning more to returning the phone and perhaps getting another Optimus V although it has many, many features that my wife would have no interest in using.

Re: why does mine work and hers doesn't
Looking at the User Reviews on the web it gets mixed results. Some people really like it and other really don't. Some phones may just be bad.
Take the phone back to where you bought it and see if they wil let you put the cost of the phone toward another Optimus V. I use to have the phone and wish I still did. Sold it and bought the Tirumph.
HUGE mistake. Triumph=POS. Stick with the Optimus you and your wife will be happy.

Re: why does mine work and hers doesn't
Actually that's about what I'll do. Except that I won an Ebay auction for a slightly used Optimus V which I'll set up for the Mrs. when it arrives.
I'll return the Kyocera phone for a refund or store credit.
At least if my wife needs help learning her new phone it'll be one that I've become familiar with the past few weeks.
Thanks for the thoughts on it.
