I just got a mobile Phone Tools USB connection kit for my KX16, but it does NOT want to connect to my computer. Can anyone help me with this?

I had also emailed Kyocera (in the meantime). They sent me the same information and I am pasting it here for you.
Although US Cellular deactivates this feature and "Doesn't offer it" (per email) I'm providing the information to you with the understanding that it doesn't violate any contracts or policies with the company....after all, they DID tell me how to do it...!
Heres the information which, again, was identical to that given me by US Cellular support.:
Dear Tim,
Thank you for contacting Kyocera-Wireless Technical Support. This email message is in response to your inquiry regarding connecting your KX16 to your computer.
Due to a restriction placed by U.S. Cellular, the KX16 will not connect with the Mobile Phone Tools (MPT) software out-of-the-box. To resolve this issue, please perform the following steps:
1. From the home display, enter '111111'.
2. Press the right soft-key to enter 'Options'.
3. Highlight 'Service' and press 'OK'.
4. Highlight 'Tethered Data' and press 'OK'.
5. Highlight 'Enabled' and press 'OK'.
6. Power off the phone.
7. Remove/reseat the battery.
8. Power on the phone.
9. On the PC, go to the 'Device Manager'.
10. If there are any erroneous devices (with exclamation points), remove them.
11. Unplug the cable from the PC.
12. Reboot the PC.
13. Launch MPT.
14. When prompted, plug the cable into the PC.
15. Let MPT detect the phone.

It still won't detect it... and when I try to detect it manually, with Other Device/COM4 (Kyocera High-Speed Wireless Modem) I get this log:
Modem Identification
Opening port COM4
AT+GMI
Comm Error
Closing port COM4
Device without modem detection
Step 1
Am I doing something wrong?

Well, I can't think of anything other than NOT doing what it says on Page 41 of the manual. Leave the data/fax setting to "automatic". When I tried doing what the manual said, mine didn't work.

I took it back to my phone retailer and got a new one. The new KX16 Candid works fine, must've been something with that particular unit.
